Gambia is a very rustic place and even for Africa, a little remote and rural. Sarah's place is like an oasis, and Sarah very easy to work with and just a nice person. The hotel is small but very nice, with nice common areas and large, clean rooms with a refrigerator and hot pot, which you can't always assume in Africa. I was picked up at the airport, the food was very good at the hotel and the staff exceedingly nice and efficient. Sarah is usually around a some time during the day, when she isn't out buying the fish or vegetables at the market for the kitchen. She's a Brit but lived in Gambia for a long time, so also a big help in planning where to go and what to do. And always quick to respond by WhatsApp. Honestly, I can't imagine staying anywhere else if I go back.

Most of all, it is the amazing staff, Mariama and Omar, who make the stay at this place not only an enjoyment but even really memorable. Especially Mariama is always happy to help out. On the weekend, she even showed me around in the capital city of Banjul and invited me to join her to the beach and the church (with a nice gospel choir, an unexpected highlight of my trip). Also the breakfast she prepares is nice, and varies every day. She generally loves cooking, so you can also ask her about making dinner - a nicer and cheaper experience than in a restaurant. I'd guess, she can also teach you some typical dishes, if you're interested. Unfortunately, I didn't have the time for that, but that's something to be looking forward to when coming back. Apart from the amazing staff, the place itself is also quite nice. The hotel has a nice outdoor seating area on both floors, and a nice garden. There are also two friendly dogs and two cute kittens around. The hotel and room were very clean at all times and staying at the hotel felt safe as access to the property is only via a gate.

We had a lovely stay. Good facilities and service, nice room, great location very close to everything but not right in the middle of the tourist hotspots.

I liked my stay overall, it was quite comfortable, they have AC in the room I was at, I was able to work comfortably from my room — the internet isn't great, but it does a fine job, and Mr. Kambi's help was great when arranging my need for taxis/visits. I appreciated him checking in on me when it was a little late and I hadn't returned from Kunta Kinteh island.
