Shady Brook is on 14 acres, 8 acres is magnificent and unique landscaped garden featured on ABC Gardening. Only 600metres from the Harrietville precinct, however we are tucked away on the other side of the Ovens River secluded and private and tranquil surrounded on all other sides by state forest. Built into this location are three specially designed and built on location three alpine cottages by a local craftsman builder. You have space, gardens river and forest back drop with magnificent views looking back to Mount Feather Top. The garden and associated forest and river provides a habitat for over 60 species of birds. Stroll in the garden or take a walk on a mountain side track or sit on your deck and relax and watch the sun set on mountain ridges. Cottages are fully furnished with all linen provided each cottage and apartment has its own carport deck and BBQ This is a unique destination and is more than accommodation this is a experience that you want to come back to. Every season has its own special joy . Only 20 mins from Bright and 45 min from Hotham We are routinely up grading to maintain a high standard in the cottages and garden for your experience and pleasure.
Anne and John own and operate Shady Brook, we have built the place from blackberries to a little piece of paradise over 20 years. We love to share this very special place with other folk and are familiy friendly and there is plenty of green spaces and tracks for children to play or explore. We are passionate about our environment and garden and Anne has some rare breeds of poultry that are able to stroll though the garden for hour or two each day. We live on site and do all the cleaning, and most of the gardening and maintenance ourselves. We give our guests privacy but are always available if assistance is needed or friendly advice or tips of where to eat or visit. If you want a guided tour about the garden please ask most times we are only to please to take you around. John is a keen bush walker and interested in the environment and history of Harrietville and the high plains so feel free to ask questions. However if you just want that private space and time to relax, unwind and take it all in we also understand. As we said we are always there if required and we always allow the guests to initiate the conversation.
Harrietville is small village set on the Ovens River we are the gateway to the great alpine experience, only 25km from busy, bustling Bright and 45 minutes away from Mount Hotham. Two of the most iconic walking trails into the Alpine National Park start in Harrietville to Mount Feathertop. Harrietville has two hotels, a bakery and various eateries, however you need to do your bulk food shopping before arriving or simply eat out. Settled in 1854 there is plenty of history and great local trails to explore either by bike or foot. Take the shared trail to the Trout farm and catch a fish or simply relax in their beautiful gardens. There are plenty of tracks and trails for 4 wheel drives or the off road bikes starting from the village. Or do a day trip to local wineries, historic Beechworth or the iconic Mount Buffulo National Park. In winter we are situated for off mountain accommodation with bus availability and all your ski hire or take the bus to the top and walk all the way down during the non ski season. This is is one of Victoria's popular tourist destination areas what Harrietville offers is tranquility and that real sense of high country but only a short drive into busy Bight
