This hotel has a good location, we saw many foreigners there, they have a small entertainment area with table tennis, the room was very comfy and cleaned daily, the staff was very nice even though we couldn’t communicate well- we had to translate in Chinese. But no worries! This is not a problem if you have internet (which I totally recommend in any foreign country). The breakfast was delicious! I recommend this hotel for anyone who wants to relax and get a good night sleep after sightseeing the beautiful city of Shanghai!

FAQs about hotels in Shanghai

A Beacon of Modern China

A beacon of 21st-century China, Shanghai is modernising at an electrifying rate. Nowhere is this more evident than the skyscraper-punctuated Pudong commercial district. The most distinct - the Oriental Pearl Tower - has a ball at the top and bottom and offers fabulous city views. A number of towers also twist as they go up – a feat of contemporary engineering.

This side of the city also houses Shanghai Pudong International Airport, while Shanghai Hongqiao Airport is over the Huangpu River in the Puxi district. An area of older and less dominating buildings, Puxi features the elegant Bund area whose varied architecture includes a surprising array of Art Deco.

With a choice of shopping centres and small shops beneath brightly lit neon signs just like Chinatowns across the world, Shanghai shopping is fantastic.

Other must-see Shanghai attractions include the wonderful Shanghai Museum and the Jade Buddha Temple. For a break from the hustle and bustle head to the Yuyuan Gardens, the beach or peaceful Zhujiajiao Water Town in the west.

Whether you choose one of the Shanghai hotels, apartments or hostels, take time to go to a tea house, a Chinese institution. Also worth sampling are Shanghai hairy crab, steamed dumplings and the freshwater fish so popular with locals.

Shanghai is a great beautiful mix of old world and new.

Shanghai is a great beautiful mix of old world and new. As a tourist I was shocked that I could not use google, social media or even access my emails. This made it impossible to find my way around, WeChat is great but it took me two days to realise I could search for cafes and whatnot on WeChat but even then there was no map. I wanted to go to Lian Quan Da bathhouse which I found on WeChat but could not find a way to get there. I also wanted to attend a meeting and could not contact the host to attend. These foibles make Shanghai an exasperating place to visit for a foreigner. Download a navigable map which I heard has been developed, WeChat and other things PRIOR to leaving- I could not even confirm my Sydney airport pickup with my friend as emails would not work! I printed out the addresses of flea markets and then discovered that I could not find my way to any of them without a functional English map. It has made me question whether or not to return as it adds a layer of difficulty to everything you do. I am vegetarian and knew there were several restaurants nearby to Jian Temple which has its own metro station so that was one bonus! But the WeChat not having a map meant I could not go searching for other places I might discover whilst there. Also the over use of single use plastics in Shanghai was shocking! They need to do more to reduce the plastic waste given the population numbers!

This was my second time visiting Shanghai. During this trip, I explored many of the must-see attractions such as Yu Yuan Garden, the Oriental Pearl Tower, the Ancient City, Wukang Mansion, St. Ignatius Cathedral, the Chocolate Factory, Shanghai Ocean Aquarium, Shanghai Library, East Nanjing Road, 1000 Trees, Disneyland, and more. I truly enjoyed every moment. I spent an unforgettable 7 days in Shanghai, full of wonderful memories. Thank you, Shanghai!

    Lovely city - good people.

Lovely city - good people. Excellent public transport like the metro which is very easy to use , even for people who do not understand or speak a word of Chinese. The signages are superb and make it very easy for travel. Taxis are plenty and not very expensive. There is lot of sightseeing - beautiful places like the bund, the superb markets, modern shopping malls with the biggest brands. The acrobatics show is a must see ! So is the Jade Buddha temple and various other attractions.

Shanghai is a unique city when compared to other metropolis.

Shanghai is a unique city when compared to other metropolis. Its air, due to the policies on electric vehicles is today always very clean. the city is generally always clean and well groomed, with lovely gardens just about anywhere. people are extremely polite and helpful and the fact that most people does not still speak english does not appear to be an obstacle. Any foreign visitor can go wherever he feels like at any time, feeling safe and looked after. You can find all types of food and restaurants. Should you prefer international food, there are amazing options around the corner. Undoubtedly the Top megacity in the World to visit, stay and possibly also to live.

This Franco-Japanese Garden hotel offers space, tranquility and quality of service on the doorstep of all the excitement that is Shanghai. Value was great. Access was amazing - taxis are cheap but the underground is literally 150m from the hotel and easy, convenient and cheap. The French concession area is ideal if you want some international sophistication as a contrast to the factories of China. We particularly enjoyed the pool and the breakfast.
