Having bought the house as a holiday home in 2003 we made the full move to this lovely peaceful part of France in 2012. We had already built on to include 2 guest bedrooms and we opened in 2013 and have been very happy with how we have been received to date. We added a pool and sun terrace since we opened. We love adding little improvements to the property and seeing guests enjoying the pool or a game of snooker on the half sized table. The addition of the guest lounge provides somewhere for guests to sit and enjoy irish hospitality.
We both spent most of our lives in the retail trade in Dublin city centre so the move to rural France was a very big change for us. We love the slow pace of life and of course the long hot summers that this region enjoys. We also both love the flea markets and spend many Sundays hunting for treasure at these. At the end of the season we return to Ireland where we sell these items at vintage fairs. We are happy to offer any information to help guests fully enjoy their stay with us.
What we love best about our situation is even though we are in a lovely quiet area we are also ideally placed for many day trips. We love visiting the Atlantic coastal towns of La Rochelle and Royan or Ile de Re. We're also close to the Marais Poitevin which is a marshland crossed by numerous canals. It is possible to hire boats to row around these canals which is great fun. Another favourite is Cognac and it's world famous distilleries. We are also along the pilgrim route to Santiago de Compostela which is very popular with walkers and cyclists. This is the reason for the abundance of Romanesque churches all around us. The nearby town of Melle has no fewer than 3 of these beautiful buildings.
