It was perfect for a single traveller. The room was a good size, immaculately prepared, and very comfortable. The shower was simple and effective. There was a variety of breakfast cereals and drinks. The bed was very comfortable. Triss, the host, was friendly and welcoming.
The location on the sea front was perfect. It's a small village with no shop as such, but an excellent cafe and a Good Beer Guide pub - two handpumps selling Scottish beers ( Jarl and a house beer brewed by Belhaven while I was there). The sunrise and sunset during my stay were stunning.
I came home feeling physically and mentally refreshed, having enjoyed my stay in The Machars

Sun 16th June, 2024. Fabulous setting right on the harbour side. Staff were very helpful even though they were super busy in the pub and restaurant, being Father's day.
I arrived a little early, but was checked in no problem and my room (No.6) was a really great size.
Two big windows overlooking the water, two tub chairs and tables, a large TV which could be moved around to face the sitting area, or the huge, super comfortable bed. Lovely clean bedding. A large built in cupboard for clothes was just inside the door, for shoes and bags.
Lastly a nice big, clean, ensuite bathroom. Lots of loo roll, two good size drinking glasses and lots of clean towels.
There was a unit by the seating area with coffee and tea facilities and lots of biscuits. There was also hot chocolate, bottles of water and beer.
WiFi was good.
Safe parking for my vehicle.
Friendly people in the bar and around the area.
I had a lovely evening meal and a superb breakfast.
It takes a while to get there, but it's worth the effort.
It takes a while to get there, but it's worth the effort. It's a great little hideaway. The cafe, The Hive and pub, The Harbour Inn, are both welcoming and reasonably priced. There's plenty to visit in at least three directions within a thirty minute drive. Sunrise and sunset are both quite special

Friendly locals.
Friendly locals.
Great pub in the village - The Harbour Inn - lovely pub staff, make you feel at home.
Beautiful scenery and wildlife.
The nearby Kilsture wood is fantastic for wildlife (deer, red squirrels and woodpeckers, amongst other beasties) and really tranquil.
Galloway House beach (Rigg Bay) is huge and the in the warmer months, the shallow nature of the bay allows the water to warm up a bit more - great for paddling in.
