Steve and Linda
Isfryn Cottage is a completely self-contained 1-bed property for two adults. It is situated in a tiny village surrounded by farmland and forest in the beautiful Dyfi Valley on the southern edge of Eryri/Snowdonia. It's a former Minister's cottage and ajoins the Hebron chapel, which is our home. We want Isfryn to feel like a sparkling clean home, not like a sparse holiday property, and for our guests to feel welcomed and spoilt! The comfortable living room has a log burner, smart TV, superfast broadband, and an extensive library of books, DVDs and games. The dining room has period furniture in keeping with the age of the house, and since the log-burner is double-sided, you don't have to leave your cosy fire to eat at the table. The kitchen is fully equipped, with induction hob, full sized oven, fridge wiht freezer compartment, microwave, kettle and toaster, so you really can self-cater if you choose. There's also a washer/dryer and a small dishwasher. Upstairs, the large landing makes a lovely second sitting room and a perfect reading-nook. The bedroom has a comfortable Superking bed (or can be set up as two 3ft singles). The bathroom has a spacious walk-in shower with both standard and rainfall heads. Every room has original and local art on the walls. We provide a gernerous Welsh Welcome Basket to greet you. It will contain home made cake, a loaf of home made bread, homemade granola, home made hummus, Welsh crisps, Welsh butter, home made jam or marmalade, Welsh organic milk, and a bottle of wine. We cna adjust the contents to meet just about any dietary requirements. Ther is easy access to mountains, coast and local attractions with miles of walks and mountain bike trails straight from the door. Whether you're looking for walking, relaxation, mountain biking, steam trains, castles, tea shops, birdwatching or even a tranquil place to work, Isfryn makes a perfect base.
Hi, we're Steve and Linda... Having both taken redundancy from work (Steve from telecoms / IT and Linda from the voluntary sector) we decided it was time for a new adventure. We both love the outdoors - especially the mountains. Steve is a rock climber and Mountain Leader. Linda loves to walk and swim, so life in the beautiful Dyfi Valley, on the border of Snowdonia, was an irresistible prospect. It was something of a homecoming as Linda is Welsh and Steve half Welsh. We moved to the lovely little village of Aberangell in July 2015 to live in our converted chapel with attached former minister's cottage and enjoyed the subsequent 8 months renovating it. We love this area, and giving other people the chance to share it is a real pleasure. When we're not enjoying being in beautiful Wales, we love to travel and have seen quite a lot of the world between us. Rome is our very favourite city and the one we'd love to get to know well enough to think of it as 'our back yard'. We're working on it! At home, we spend as much time out in the hills or on the coast as we can manage to fit into surprisingly busy days. Like most people, we both love to read, go to the cinema, cook, enjoy a glass of wine and share good times with good friends. We're very happy folk and loving our life here!
Isfryn sits on the southern border of the Snowdonia National Park in the beautiful Dyfi Valley. Our quiet little village of Aberangell is tucked between farmland and the extensive Dyfi Forest, and Isfryn looks out over fields onto the high ridge above the valley. For local shops, the fabulous general store, cafe & deli of Ty Cemaes is 5 minutes drive and the local garage (also 5 minutes) sells the essentials and has an attached cafe too. The market towns of Machynlleth and Dolgellau are both around 15 minutes away and have a range of shops, cafes and pubs. There are a number of good pubs within a few miles of Isfryn, the nearest being 2 miles, via a quiet back lane. For those who love the outdoors, there are miles of walking and cycling right from our doorstep and we are within easy reach of mountain biking centres at Bikepark Dyfi and Coed Y Brenin. For those who love nature, the RSPB reserve at Ynys Hir, the Dyfi Osprey Project and the Red Kite feeding centre are all within easy driving distance. The stunning coastline is only 40 minutes away, offering everything from beautiful and deserted beaches to traditional seaside towns and castles. Many of the Little Trains of Wales run close by and offer excellent days out. Machynlleth is home to the Welsh Museum of Modern Art and host to comedy and music festivals. For mountains there's no shortage, with Cader Idris is only 20 minutes drive away. There are several castles to visit, such as Harlech and Caernarfon, slate mines to explore, award-winning distillleries to visit and lots more.
