Very peaceful location abundant with sparrows, house martins and swallows. We stayed in Middle Cottage which is light and airy and very comfortable for a couple. On arrival, Dee showed us around their wonderful extensive gardens which open onto farmland. Some panoramic views from the end garden. We were left with a welcome basket of essentials including eggs (their own) and milk.

Southlands Farm Cottages are luxury stone built self-catering holiday cottages nestled in the heart of the Northumberland, an area famed for its outstanding natural beauty and Hadrians Wall. The accomodation sleeps 12 in total and is perfect for family gatherings and events. Beyond the cottages this picturesque smallholding boasts beautiful gardens, vegetable patch, and open fields for guests and their four legged friends to explore. Dee and Charles endeavor to create a bespoke experience for all who visit Southlands; offering catering, courses, group bookings for weddings and fishing parties and much more.
Dee and Charles McGowan are the beating heart of Southlands. Dee’s attention to detail and artistic flair can be felt throughout all three cottages. The enchanting mix of antique furniture, open fires and beautiful fabrics create a cozy and restful retreat. Charles’ creative hand can be seen in the artisan kitchens, staircases and curtain rails designed to give each cottage a bespoke and individual finish. On-suite bathrooms, crisp linen sheets, welcome baskets of local treats and hand tied posies from the garden add luxury yet country feel.
Gunnerton is a small quite country village in beautiful Northumberland, 15 mins from the historic market towns of Hexham and Corbridge. There are several footpaths leading from the village into the open countryside. Hadrians wall less than 10 mins drive.
