The town's steep main streets are lined with the traditional stone homes of the area, and there is a wide selection of stores to choose from. Cragside, Alnwick Castle (home of the Duke of Northumberland), Wallington Hall, and a multitude of noteworthy castles are all within driving distance, and the area also features a golf course, public tennis courts, and bike hire.
