The cottage was lovely - it has it's own driveway with a gate, beautifully presented inside and out. The kitchen equipment was extensive, the living room was comfortable and cosy, bedrooms were thought through well, in order to maximise space -...

Very welcoming hosts, showed us round the old mill which they are renovating and left a 'starter pack' of food for us on arrival. We loved watching the bird feeders right outside the kitchen window and enjoyed the garden flowers. The location...

The Old Mill is a Grade II listed cottage situated between the village of Jacobstowe and Exbourne near to the town of Okehampton. The property has two bedrooms, one super-king size bed ( this is a zip and link bed so can be made up as a twin, please ask if your require this to be done) with an ensuite shower room and one kings size room ( also available as a twin, please ask) with an open-plan ensuite shower room enclosed by a privacy screen, sleeping up to four people. Also inside the property is a sitting room with a stone inglenook wood burning stove, a dining room with a stone inglenook wood burning stove, There is also a sofa bed in the sitting room which can be used at a small charge for bedding., a kitchen, and one bathroom with a shower over bath, hand basin and WC. The property has off road parking on a large gravel drive way. Also included is a private garden and patio area. The Old Mill is the ultimate choice for a rural holiday to the Devonshire countryside. The Cottage dates back to the 15th century and as such has many quirky features including beamed ceilings. The river runs along the boundary of the property where there are beautiful walks and places to access the water. Our orchard is also available to guests where we keep chickens and ducks. The gardens and river bank abound with wild life. We set trail cameras on the river and frequently see otters, foxes, deer, herons. The bird life is extremely varied too with dippers, goosanders, Tree creepers, nuthatch, siskins, woodpeckers, as well as all the little garden birds. This really is a wildlife lovers paradise so don't forget your camera. We are both dog lovers although we don't have dogs ourselves as our 15 ducks and 28 hens and one cockerel keep us busy. We love having other peoples dogs to stay.
Kevin and Linda have been running The Old mill cottage as a holiday cottage since 2019 when the cottage was fully renovated with new plumbing and electrics. We live in the adjoining cottage at the moment however upon completion of the Mill renovations this cottage will also be available for holiday let hopefully later in 2023. Both cottages have similar accommodation so will be an ideal family destination if two families wish to holiday together of if relatives want to holiday as a group. We also have a shepherds hut overlooking the river which is available to book and sleeps two people. We are very passionate about the rural life here and love all the wildlife on the river which we like to share with our guests. We both enjoy walking and really enjoy the walks through the fields, woods and tiny Devon hamlets on the doorstep of The old mill and the beautiful walks just 4 miles away on Dartmoor.
Okehampton is a busy market town on the edge of the Dartmoor National Park and near the highest and most dramatic areas of the moor, where Yes Tor rises to a height above 2000 feet. To the north of Okehampton are some beautiful rolling Devon hills where small farming villages nestle amidst woods and fields with plenty of gently flowing rivers. The fabulous Roadford Reservoir offers a multitude of watersport activities and fishing opportunities. Okehampton has a prominent medieval castle overlooking a wooded river valley, the Museum of Dartmoor Life (where Tourist Information can be found) and Okehampton train station, which has been restored to its 1950s glory running trains along a scenic route to Meldon the highest station in southern England and on to Exeter.. The town also has spectacular views across Dartmoor, access to fabulous walks and Simmons Park where you’ll find a children’s adventure playground. This area of Devon has plenty of farm shops and country inns serving good food where visitors can spend time relaxing and unwinding amongst unspoilt countryside. Many of the local pubs and restaurants are very happy to have dogs on their premises.
