Ty Pren Bach is on the edge of the village Maenclochog and overlooks the spectacular Preseli Hills in North Pembrokeshire. It sits in the grounds of Westland West, a 5 ½ acre small holding with a small campsite also onsite. It is a peaceful and relaxing setting with stunning views. The Preseli Hills, Bluestone Country, provide wonderful opportunities for walking, cycling, horse riding and bird watching. You can walk to the highest point, Foel Cwmcerwyn, with its stunning views, directly from the cottage or drive a short distance to park close to the ancient Golden Road and climb up Foel Eryr where there is a panoramic view of Pembrokeshire. Coarse fishing is available at Llys-Y-Fran Country Park and Reservoir. Ty Pren Bach has both Walkers welcome and Cyclists welcome accreditation. The beautiful and dramatic Cwm Gwaun is a short drive away. This valley in the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park is famous for its woodland, streams, and wildlife including otters, dippers, red kites and buzzards. The historic Dyffryn arms (Bessie’s) at Pontfaen, is one of CAMRA’s heritage pubs serving Bass beer from a jug.
We love living in Pembrokeshire because of our passion for the outdoors. In our younger days, we have happy memories of climbing on the amazing limestone sea cliffs in south Pembrokeshire. We enjoy exploring the wonderful scenery in the Preseli hills by bike, as it is a brilliant area for cycling. The many rivers and the beautiful coastline in this county, enable us to have fun while paddling in our kayaks. Having a dog gives us the daily excuse to explore the coastal paths, the hill walks and dog friendly beaches that the region has to offer. As a family, we have a keen interest in photography and especially love taking photos of the amazing wildlife that we see around this region, such as the red kites that soar over our house, the curlews and oyster catchers to be found in the estuary near Newport. Our grown up children are following in our footsteps with their sense of adventure and recently had great fun jumping from crazy heights into the sea at the Blue Lagoon, which has been used for National diving championships. We enjoy sampling the local produce, such as the cheese from the shop in Rosebush, the beer from the Bluestone brewery and the beef and eggs from a local farm.
Maenclochog is conveniently placed for Narberth(10miles), Fishguard(11miles), Haverfordwest(12miles) and Newport(10miles). The village itself has two shops, a post office and pub all within walking distance. There are also two garages both of which can help with mechanical problems. Rosebush, only a mile away, boasts the famous Tafarn Sinc which offers excellent food and real ale. From Rosebush you can access Pantmaenog Forest, which has recently been opened to the public and has over 12km's of walking, mountain biking and horse-riding trails. Other places of interest include Carn Ingli (peak behind Newport), Castell Henllys iron age settlement, which gives you a real idea of what life might have been like during the iron age. Pentre Ifan a striking burial chamber, Beddarthur stone circle, Brynberian burial chamber, the Pembrokeshire Coastal Path, Oakwood Theme Park(12miles), Clerkenhill Adventure Farm, Dyfed Shire Horse Farm, Scolton Manor House, which gives you a taste of Victorian life, Picton Castle and then there is The Welsh Wildlife Centre.
