Property info

Our guest house retains the traditional characteristics of a typical rural Kakhetian house and is decorated in simple unpretentious decor. We manage one large property, which has four rooms for guests including one double room, two shared dorm rooms with four single beds in each room, and one shared dorm room with three single beds. In total we can accommodate 14 guests. The present building was constructed in 1954 using local stone and timber with characteristic high veranda and sloped tin roof. Thick sturdy walls and oak beams support the two-story structure. It is situated 150 meters from the Alazani River. The land around the main building accommodates a front and rear garden, modern bathroom facilities, a multi-purpose conference hall and outdoor gazebo. The rear of the house is occupied by a cow shed, chicken pen, fruit orchards, vegetable and herb plots, and fields for growing corn and potatoes. We grow our own organic produce, which we use to make authentic, delicious and satisfying meals for our guests. Their comments and reviews are a real testament to the quality and care we take to cater for our guests. To help you get the most out of your stay, we provide a range of services for exploring local Kist culture and environments. This includes: cultural tours with an English-speaking guide to visit local attractions; horse treks for beginners and experienced riders for day trips or multiday expedition to Tusheti in the remote High Caucasus; mountain bike hire; live concert of Sufi folk songs by a leading Kist women’s group; and cooking master classes by leading Kist chefs.

Neighborhood info

Pankisi Valley is located in Kakheti between the foothills of the Greater Caucasus mountains and the Alazani Valley wine growing region. The fertile valley is 20 kilometres long and 4 kilometres wide, divided by the Alazani River, which flows down from the Georgian-Chechen border in the High Caucasus mountains. There are eight major village settlements in the valley: Duisi, Jokolo, Birkiani, Dzibakhevi, Omalo, Dumasturi, Kvemo Khalatsani, and Tsinubani. The ruins of older settlements and ancient monuments can be found all around the valley hills and forests, which are great for exploring. The key local attractions are: amphitheatre, King Tamara's monument, 11th century watch tower, stone tower house, Old Mosque, Saint George's Church, old Jokolo cemetery, ethnographic museum, Zizi's felt-making workshop, Khadori waterfall, Batsara ravine, Tbatana mountain and Nakerala Mountain. Tourists interested in Sufi traditions can attend a Zikr ceremony performed by Kist women at the Old Mosque in Duisi every Friday at noon. Like to the Whirling Dervishes in Turkey, the ritual sees participants move around in a circle at an ever-increasing pace while chanting, singing, and clapping their hands. Another highlight is seeing a live performance of traditional Chechen folk songs and religious hymns by the acclaimed Aznash Laaman group of Kist women. Visitors can also arrange to visit a local brewery producing a popular non-alcoholic beer as well as a local honey producer for honey tasting. All these attractions and sites can be visited with a local guide. Every Friday, women from around the valley gather at the Old Mosque in Duisi to perform Zikr, an ancient spiritual rite, rooted in Sufi mysticism. Like to the Whirling Dervishes in Turkey, the ritual sees participants move around in a circle at an ever-increasing pace while chanting, singing, and clapping their hands. Visitors to Pankisi Valley can dine at a few local cafes in Duisi, the local favourite is Cafe Pankisi.
