Nafplio is a great place to visit.
Nafplio is a great place to visit. It is a beautiful town with many nearby historical sites to visit. Above the town of Nafplio is the Palamidi Fortress, a Venetian Castle from the early 1700's. On a small island right off the port is the Bourtzi Fortress, an old prison where the guillotine was used to execute prisoners. Also not far away are some UNESCO world heritage sites. Mycenae and Tiryns, from the 12 century. Don't miss seeing the Lion's Gate. My favorite is the Ancient Theatre at the Asklepieion of Epidaurus. Loved this little town.
Loved this little town. If you are visiting Greece and looking for a different trip than going to the Islands (or don't have time to go to an Island) Nafplio is a fantastic long weekend destination! The old town is adorable with cute walking streets filled with restaurants and shops. It's on the water with several beaches to access - one is walkable. There is a castle and historic sites to hike to. You can rent a boat from the marina for a day trip. The drive from Athens Airport is less than 2 hours and much easier than driving in Athens traffic. In over 50yrs of visiting Greece, Nafplio is one of my most favourite places to revisit. I have had a place in Athens for decades & it's only 2hrs away on the bus, so I've been quite a few times. Everything about it is beautiful -- the buildings (whether grand or cute), the cafes, the friendliness of the people, the whole atmosphere of the town -- it's like being on a island. And the 50mins walk along the coast to the huge Karathonas Beach is absolutely stunning. I only managed 300 of the 999 steps up to the top of the Fortress, but it's worth walking up & around the Castle & its grounds. Gorgeous.Guest review byDeryckUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Stayed one night as a quick stop because we were traveling further south, but it would have been nice for 2 nights. Great area to jog around the area. Had beautiful paths with a great view of the sea. We jogged around these paths for an hour . It's also an excellent hike up the fortress steps.......beautiful scenery!! 3sixty has excellent steaks! Beautiful town to walk around.
Beautiful town to walk around. We walked up the steps to the Fortress and what an amazing view. The fortress is quite large so plan to spend some time investigating it (you can drive to the top if you don't want to go up all the steps). We ate some great food here as well. This is a very nice hotel, set in it's own grounds with ample car park, gardens and swimming pool. It is only c.5mins from the main town and all the attractions there. We had been on a touring holiday and booked on night here as it then left us c.2 hours drive to Athens airport. We wished we had stayed longer as the room and breakfast were excellent. The room was spacious and all wooden, in a nice traditional style. Even though there was not specifically a breakfast included, they provided water, butter, marmelade and bread. The pension is situated in the old town of Nafplio, very close to everything! The hosts were nice and made us feel welcome.
