Property info

The Indus River Camp is a 40-acre natural sanctuary on the banks of the Indus, in the village of Chuchot. It is a 20-minute drive from Leh and its airport, yet the only buildings in sight are the local monasteries. We offer affordable glamping: we have 8 Luxury Tents, Cabins and Cottages facing the Indus River. We have a well-stocked library, a telescope, a wildlife scope, a campfire and a dining hall served by a classically trained chef, all set in the largest natural property in Ladakh. The land is a haven for birds and wildlife alike. It is an experience away from the dust and noise of Leh city, yet a short 25-minute drive will take you into town. Through our guest coordinator, we organise itineraries and a number of activities and cultural experiences in and around camp and further afield. Get in touch if you would like help with your trip and we will make sure that all your logistical concerns are

Neighborhood info

Our campsite is located in the peaceful, Buddhist villge of Chuchot Yokma. The village runs parallel to the Indus River for 13km and offers lovely village and river walks. 15 minutes walk from camp is the Bactrian double humped camel conservation project - a government initiative to preserve the unique double humped camels that are found in Ladakh. They are not indigenous to the region but were brought by traders along the Sillk Road and Alexandra the Great's armies so long ago. Visible from our rooms, on the other side of the river Indus, is Shey Palace, former home to Ladakhi royalty and a combination of ruins, palace and jagged rocks. Along the Indus Valley there is the spectacular Thiksey monastery which, along with its gonpa (supporting village) is built onto a rocky hillside and is conveyed with special religious significance in Buddhism. Further along the river are Matho, Stakna and Hemis, each offering its own unique views of the valley and cultural significance. Towering over camp is the mighty Stok Kangri mountain - at 6,300 metres above sea level it is the highest if the nearest peaks and sitting below is Stok Palace, the current home of Ladakhi royalty.
