Scanno is a fairly typical hill-top Abruzzo town.
Scanno is a fairly typical hill-top Abruzzo town. It's not quite as charming as some of the other small towns within the boundaries of the Nation Park, but it's still an attractive place - particularly the Old Town (Centro Storico). There are several restaurants/trattorie in or near the town serving traditional Abruzzese dishes at reasonable prices. The nearby lake (3km) is a tranquil beauty spot and well worth a visit. Scanno is a good base for anyone interested in walking/trekking - there are some fine paths in around the town and above the lake. My only criticism would be that, too often, the paths are poorly signposted. All things considered, a great place to spend a few days relaxing in.

Poor breakfast, with little fresh food or fruit. No service whatsoever. The region has a lot to offer, with a little effort clients could be provided with optional programs. Great pool but no chance of having a proper apero with finger food. With little effort the hotel could be much better, if only the management had some interest in providing some basic services

The only issue was they put us in a room with non-working A/C, though when we pointed it out they did offer to change our room. In any event the weather was cool that night. About a 10 minute walk into the old town and a 1 minute walk to a children’s playground. Parking was free along the road too. The host was so friendly and professional.
