A lovely pension in a beautiful part of Japan. Delicious multi-course dinner and friendly hosts who’ve set up their home to be super welcoming to families. Our kids loved all the toys and board games, and we enjoyed getting to know our hosts and other guests. We hope to be back!

Julian's Pension offers a family-friendly, homey atmosphere catering to MTB'ers, hikers, outdoor and nature enthusiasts, as well as those seeking English-speaking accommodations while visiting Yatsugatake. The pension provides private bedrooms with shared toilets and showers. The spacious communal area comprises a dining room, a lounge complete with a wood stove, and an activity room where guests can engage in board games, arts and crafts, or unwind with drinks at the end of the day. The outdoor area boasts a bike wash/maintenance station, a garden, and a terrace with BBQ facilities. Hearty home-cooked western meals, featuring our farm-to-table initiative with homegrown vegetables and rice, are served for breakfast and dinner. Our menu is continuously evolving to incorporate vegetarian and gluten-free options, and we make every effort to accommodate food allergies. Please communicate any dietary needs during the reservation process. Additional perks during your stay include: Complimentary tickets to the local onsen, Shika no yu.
Julian and Katrina are world travelers with a deep passion for nature and outdoor sports. Our dream is to place Fujimi (and the broader Yatsugatake region) on the map as a destination where people can reconnect with nature and indulge in outdoor sports. Our specific love is for mountain biking, and we aspire to create a network of trails in the adjacent forests in the near future. As the second owners of the pension, which we now call home, we encountered a property that had been uninhabited for several years and required extensive renovations. Julian has devoted a significant portion of his "leisure time" to the arduous task of restoring the pension. Most of the interior work has been and will continue to be handled by our family. Throughout your stay, you'll observe tangible signs of our enthusiasm for woodworking, arts and crafts, and gardening. We love to chat and get to know new folks. Remember, life is short—enjoy the ride!
Yatsugatake, Japan's burgeoning tourist destination for outdoor sports enthusiasts and those seeking a reconnection with nature, is conveniently located just a 2-3 hour drive from Tokyo. During the summer months, visitors can revel in activities such as downhill biking at Fujimi Panorama MTB Park, trail riding, road cycling, high-altitude running, hiking, mountain climbing, canoeing, horseback riding, bird watching, flower walks, and more. In winter, the region offers skiing and snowboarding at Fujimi Kogen Ski Resort and Fujimi Panorama Ski Resort, snowshoe trekking, stargazing, and additional winter delights. Throughout the year, one can unwind and rejuvenate in one of the many onsens scattered across the mountain range. The area is also adorned with numerous art galleries, museums, arts and crafts shops, boutiques, farmers' markets, cafes, restaurants, and more. Our village, Fujimi, is renowned for its Soba (Japanese noodles made from buckwheat). The Soba restaurant, そば処 おっこと亭, provides a unique experience where you can make Soba noodles yourself. For those interested in a cultural experience, the region is celebrated for its Jomon history and its ties to the famous Samurai Shingen Takeda.
