The location is great. It was close to the Gala ski resort (it's a 10 minute walk to the ski resort. it's much better to take the hotel shuttle). The Kaiseiki dinner was delicious. The view from our tatami room was beautiful. the hot spring bath house was good.

Yasunari Kawabata wrote his famous novel, Snow Country, in the Japanese rooms at Takahan. Offering hot-spring baths, Thai massages and karaoke, the ryokan is 5 minutes from Gala Yuzawa Train Station on the free shuttle. Tatami (woven-straw) floors and Japanese futon beds create a traditional atmosphere in the rooms at Takahan Ryokan. All rooms have a flat-screen TV, and the attached bathroom comes with a bathtub. Yuzawa Kogen Ski Resort and Gala Yuzawa Ski Resort are both about a 5-minute walk away. Yuzawa Kogen Ropeway is about a 5-minute drive from the property, and JR Echigo Yuzawa Station is one mile away. On-site parking is free.
