The Esala Perehera in August is a wonderful spectacle and completely free to watch unless you want to buy a seat. Avoid the tourist restaurants and eat where the locals eat for tasty and cheap food. Some of the other attractions have the habit of charging tourists a lot more than locals to visit. The Queens hotel is an old world type place for a drink. Kandy is a vibrant and busy town with the usual pollution , a few interesting places to visit, great eats but it is difficult to avoid the noise and stink of traffic , even when walking around the lake.Guest review byandyNew Zealand - 10.0

Such a beautiful city with a rich history of religion and rulers. Everything is very accessible, well maintained, and you can tell the locals take pride in their city. The Kandy Lake is beautiful little feature that highlights all the instalments around it, from the Dalada Maligawa Temple, to the Hideout Lounge, the Kandy City Centre, and even a fantastic little hotel just off the water called Hotel Lakefield, where I stayed.Guest review byDG Travels - 2.0

The staff had no manners or respect for the clients. Tge phone was never answered on any service calls. The bed is great, the shower is gorgeous and the personel is the best i’ve seen yet. They will help you with literally anything you need and wil accomodate it for you. If something on the menu is not like your taste, they can change it to your own liking. We were sad that we had to leave after just one night but we arrived late to Kandy and had to leave early the next day. But even this short stay was memorable.
