The cottage is beautifully presented - the decor and furnishings are lovely and the kitchen has everything we needed. Julia, our host, left us home made granola, baking , jams and fresh fruit, which was so thoughtful . The grounds are beautiful and it was wonderful. It was such a pleasure to be there.Everything about the place was fantastic . I couldn’t recommend it more highly .

Columbus Cottage is a delightful, magical hideaway set in a mature garden with expansive lawns and exotic trees only minutes from Omaha beach and the bustling Matakana markets. The Cottage is well positioned in the 3 acre garden of 144 on Jones. It is beautifully furnished with sumptuous king bed, ensuite bathroom and well equipped kitchen. The french doors open onto a sunny terrace leading onto the lawns where you can partake in croquet or petanque or simply meander, in natural tranquility, through the established garden. There is abundant birdlife and as you relax on the terrace with a glass of your favourite, the evening chorus is something to behold. 144 on Jones offers a 'get away from it all' environment, but within minutes there are shops, bars, restaurants, ocean, cinema and lots more besides. Come and see for yourself, you wont be disappointed!
Julia is originally from the UK and met her NZ husband while travelling in Turkey. We settled back in NZ with our family in 2000 and after years of schooling and busy city life, the countryside beckoned. Having been brought up in a country B&B in the UK, Julia is in her element, manicuring the garden and creating a beautiful, welcoming space for her guests. It is such a unique spot and we are excited about sharing it with our guests.
144 on Jones is perfectly positioned on a quiet no exit road on the edge of the Tawharanui Peninsula and has so many local attractions at it's fingertips. The Matakana Cycle Trail is metres away, opening up Omaha to Matakana or Point Wells with many local attractions along the way, such as Jones Rd Cider, Oob (Omaha Organic Blueberries), Sculptureum, Matakana Country Park, Takatu Lodge Vineyard and Morris & James pottery to mention but a few - all on a bike! FYI - 2 bikes available but one is extra large (6ft minimum height recommended) A little further afield is Parkiri Beach, Goat Island Marine Reserve, Tawharanui Regional Park, Brick Bay Sculpture Trail and so much more. It it's food you're after, the famous Matakana Market is open every Saturday selling delicious local produce with tasting plates on every stall. There are several exceptional restaurants a short distance away along with the Sawmill Brewery and Smiths Bar and Ascension Winery. This is either a great place to hide away for a quiet few days or use as a base to explore the local area, which is fast becoming one of New Zealand's more interesting and generally entertaining places to be.
