Not far from Knjaževac is Stara Planina, the largest mountain in eastern Serbia. The high mountain massif extends as a natural border to Bulgaria's fascinating beauty and unspoiled nature. As one of the most beautiful mountains in our country, there is a huge potential for tourism development. Stara planina represents a natural resource of extraordinary significance and in the first category of natural resources. Almost five months a year this Serbian beauty is under the snow. The altitude on which it extends, from 1,100 and 1,900 m, has excellent potential for building long-distance ski trails. Babin zub, located at an altitude of 1,758 m, is one of the most beautiful landscapes of the Old Mountain. The marking walls of Babin's towers end in the south-west Midurs (2.169 m above sea level), the highest peak of Stara Planina and Serbia. Babin zub is a protected nature reserve.
