Great location for walking distance to both Balboa park, the marina and Gaslamp district. Breakfast was good and also provided takeaway boxes to eat breakfast elsewhere or take something for later. Coffee and fresh water available freely in reception. Just one block from Avis and Budget rental pick up point. We used this instead of hiring car upon arrival at the airport. Just walked whilst in San Diego and then grabbed car as we moved on at the end.

FAQs about hotels in San Diego

The Art of Easy Living

Sweeping along the coast against a mountain backdrop, San Diego has easy living down to a fine art. Its wonderful beaches and mild climate make it a favourite spring break destination, and with over 40 city breweries, there are plenty of ice cold beers to set the mood.

The city’s most recognisable landmark is the Hotel del Coronado, a wooden Victorian beach resort, now a National Historic Landmark. The original Spanish mission, the first in California, has been relocated to the Mission Valley area, and Old Town San Diego still has many Colonial buildings and quirky shops. Also great for shopping are Horton Plaza and the boutiques in the beachfront neighbourhoods.

The city’s most famous attraction is its zoo in Balboa Park, a few blocks from San Diego International Airport. One of the world’s largest zoos, it is well worth a visit, as is the fantastic SeaWorld, home to several killer whales. To see wildlife in its natural habitat head to La Jolla beach where harbour seals rest, or watch whales in season from Point Loma Lighthouse.

Just over the border from Mexico’s Tijuana, San Diego has a distinctly Latin American vibe and a variety of accommodation encompassing apartments, motels, B&Bs and hotels. See Booking.com for the best deals.

I grew up in San Diego. I came home for a visit. My brother made our trip great. He took us out kayaking on LaJolla Shores and Cove. We went paddle boarding at Kelloggs Beach. I took my grandaughter to Sea World. Ate at many awesome restaurants. Went to Laguna Mtn Observatory.

Loved the beach. Loved the close proximity to La Jolla and the aquarium. 5 minutes to the harbor, 20 minutes to Mission beach, 30 minutes to La Jolla. The Cottage was a nice restaurant in La Jolla.

Beach and sunny weather — one of the main reasons we flew to San Diego. Among the beaches we visited, we prefered La Jolla Cove area. San Diego Zoo and SeaWorld were worth going to, especially with our minor child. If you do not want to carry your child all the time, you may rent strollers for just below $30.

The end of our road trip was to San Diego, 12-17th July, we stayed on Shelter Island in Humphreys Half Moon Inn which was a beautiful oasis. The rooms were like apartments spacious and the beds were very comfortable. The pool area was perfect with towels too, and not too busy. The restaurant had really delicious food and wonderful views over the harbour. Great service too. We don’t get around to using our 1hr free cycle hire each day wish we had as the Shelter Island was beautiful. We hired a car for our road trip so had access to things, without a car Shelter Island is a little further away. We visited Coronado Island and the USS midway. Both well worth a visit. We also went to Belmont Park. We pre-booked a whale watching tour on the America Yacht which was absolutely fantastic and we were fortunate enough to see a blue whale incredible. The crew were fantastic it was a great half a day experience. The only downside was could have stayed a little longer to visit more. Loved San Diego what an incredible place.

    San Diego is amazing!

San Diego is amazing! We stayed in Gaslamp at the Omni and had such a nice time. Highly recommend the zoo, catching a game at Padres stadium, walking around Gaslamp and going to the many delicious restaurants, Stone Brewing, and Little Italy. So much good food everywhere! And very walkable. Balboa park is incredible! So much to experience in one place. Also make the trip to La Jolla if you haven't been - its beautiful and the wildlife is amazing. Can't wait to return to San Diego and see and do more!
