In a hectic city like Beijing this hotel is great to have as base camp. The location is great, walking distance to a pedestrian shopping street and forbidden city and also a few minutes to the metro (taxis are cheap, but with traffic metro can be more convenient). The suite was great, with all needed amenities (including masks included case of fire emergency, something we never saw before). Breakfast is great, with buffet and some dishes from a menu (included in the price). There’s a large indoor swimming pool. Best however is the staff, always helpful. At arrival we were welcomed outside, we got a room upgrade, and macarons and fruit in the room.
A tranquil and luxurious retreat close to Wanfujing shopping street, Dengshikou metro station of Line 5 is within walking distance. It boasts spacious rooms with breathtaking views of Beijing.

From entrance to exit, it is only a one-way street, so you can't exactly go out from the way you come in. They do have souvenir shops inside with average price. It is a long walk from entrance to exit with lots of seating area. From the exit, the nearest metro station will be at least 1,5km away. I think it's best for you to invest in Sightseeing bus for that day for convenience.

The Beijing International Hotel is perfectly situated. It is walking distance to Tiannamen Square and Forbidden City, to Wangfu Xing (the main shopping street) and Oriental Plaza in the west, and also to Silk Market in the East of the hotel.
From our rooms we had a great view directly to Chan An, Henderson Centre and the Train Station South.
The breakfast buffet is very rich and has a good selection for bith: Chinese and western.
Wonderful hotel with amazing staff and great location. This was truely one of the best hotels I have stayed in. Perfect location to explore Beijing and experience the local culture. Staff was very friendly and helpful with any questions or assistance needed. Metro station is very close and a lot of attractions (parcs, forbidden city, tempels) are in walking distance.
Great hotel located right next to the metro that leads to the Forbidden City and Tiananmen Square. The staff was very helpful and assisted us with our trip to the Great Wall of China. Rooms are spacious and have great air conditioning.
The rooms were quite nice, the beds comfortable and the courtyard was lovely.
The Hotel is located close to the metroline 4, which brings you directly to the summer palace, the beijing zoo and the northern train station. About half an hour away from the forbidden city by foot (but you can also take the bus).
But the very best thing about the hotel is its owner, Marc, who is super helpful with everything you need. He recommended us to lots of places, bought train tickets for us, we could buy a sim card at his place and so on.
Very nice hotel in Beijing
The hotel is clean, very well furnished, the swimming pool and gym are very nice
The room was great with a very nice view on Beijing and the Church close to the place
Amazing location, close to Forbidden City and Tiananmen Square ( fastly to go walking)
People were helpful and nice in particular at Conciergerie
Hotel is beautiful - from the entrance to the rooms. Rooms are very well equipped with a lot of space and they take care of every single small detail - spotless clean! Was magical to view some parts of the Forbidden City as we had just landed in Beijing
Located in Beijing Hutong between 2 metro stations (within walking distance). Very near to Wangfujing shopping street and food! Walkable distance to Forbidden City as well (but about 20mins walk). Basic room with necessary amenities, but i love the shared pantry area which gives a homely vibe. Hotel is more like a youth hostel vibe, friendly staffs who will help to give recommendations on food and places on interest.
very nice hotel well placed inside Beijing forbidden city disctrict.
nice and helpful staff, fluent in english and able to help on various requests (ticketing to shows, food requests, early breakfast,...)
The Orchid's location is fantastic, in the middle of Beijing's hutongs (great area to walk around and get lost in) and close to the drum & bell tower, nanluoguxiang and even the forbidden city is only a 10 minute bicycle ride away. The hotel itself is lovely, it's like staying in an tiny old Chinese village. Staff is wonderful too, very helpful and friendly. As for places to eat around the hotel - try Mr Shi dumplings in the same street as the hotel, highly recommended!
The hotel was in one of the 'hutong' zones with original hutong buildings rather than the characterless high rise blocks of flats. Very friendly staff and close to lots of very good restaurants with reasonable priced menus. Close to the Beijing tourist sites eg Forbidden City

Winter is a good time to avoid the crows, but you still have to be early for the forbidden city and the smog is of course worse in winter.

Don't use the Tours that are being offered , learn to use the subway trains are very efficient .You can get around anywhere in Beijing for 2 RMB , so traveling anywhere is very cheap .You only need to pay for your entrance fees wherever you go . The forbidden City and the Summer Palace gives you a very good idea of their rich culture .

The main places to see are easily accessible and not expensive. The Forbidden City is amazing (I paid for the audio guide), and explains a lot about the life and times of the emperors who lived there. Walking around the hutongs gives you the opportunity to see a part of the city that is still as it has been for many years, so see them before they disappear!. Of course a day trip to the Wall will help you appreciate how the Chinese tried to keep marauders and invaders out of their territory - quite an amazing piece of civil engineering even though it didn't in the end prevent Genghis Khan from entering the kingdom.

You cannot!!!
You cannot!!! Unless it is deep winter and snow has fallen... But do yourself a favor - do not travel to Beijing for sightseeing on the first week of October (National Holidays). Third day of holidays 2014 (peak time of course is the first) Forbidden City count for a day was 140 000 people!!! Weather wise best is September...
