This is so impressive! The quantity and quality of foodstuffs is amazing. All things paprika and Hungarian, meat and cheese, foie gras, breads, fruits and vegetables, desserts. I could have stayed here for hours. I enjoyed this experience immensely. On the second floor, there were restaurants, as well as souvenir type items for sale. A must place to visit in Budapest.
Very crowded, not advisable at lunchtime. Lots of shops and gifts. I found the paprika I wanted to buy. The square across the street is where one of our group had a knife pulled on him while 2 thugs were trying to get him to buy a cell phone. Scam. He said no and they threatened him. Be cautious and aware of your surroundings.
Not friendly Not helpful ppl there, do not know English hard to communicate and they cheated me as I buy 2 peaches and they give me spoiled ones and I ask to change a good one, he change one and give me that fierce look that GO AWAY kinda look, so i do not want to make a big fight there for just 2 rotten peaches.. so we go away and we didnt buy anything there anymore. Never go there again ..NO GOOD !!!
A very touristy place. The morning we were there, there were large groups of day visitors from the river cruises before 11 am. We found the food items on sale overpriced and not up to the quality you'd expect in a fresh food market. Save your $$ and your appetite and eat elsewhere. There are many souvenir shops as well in the market. While they are also a tad overpriced, you probably won't easily find such a high concentration of souvenirs and handicrafts under one roof elsewhere in Budapest. So if you have limited time to pick up some souvenirs, the Market is not a bad place to do your shopping.
Try to visit early in the morning, as it gets really crowded and unpleasant through the day. Some food items are way cheaper in Tesco/Spar (this one particular bottle of Egri Bikaver wine costed about 1500 HUF at Tesco and about 5000 HUF at this market).
A stunning purpose-built market building - head up to the second floor to truly appreciate the scale of it and get a better view of the stalls below. Look for the intriguing “mushroom models” in the back corner downstairs (near the bathrooms) - advising which wild mushrooms are safe to eat when you are collecting them in the forest or fields.
Super cozy place, excellent location. Tesco and Spar are just a few minutes walk, also really close to the Great Market Hall. Laura is really sweet and she will help you with anything you need. They provide a towel and you have a lot of privacy with the curtains around the bed. It feels a lot like home! Showers are great and the entire place is very clean (the lady that does it is also really sweet). Thank you for the amazing time. Can’t recommend enough.
Comfy bed, location next to great market hall, freedom bridge abd chapel on the rock great view of the citadel from our room
