Hotels near Monte Baldo, Malcesine

You can't just hop into the water at any point on the shores of Lake Garda. In many places, it's difficult to stop if you're travelling by car and even if you find a parking place, most of them are pay-at-machine. Other places are busy with wind-surfers or trainee sailors, and obviously swimming near marinas is a bad idea - not just because of the boats, but because the water is polluted. This makes Malcesine an excellent place to swim. Outside the Hotel Castello Lake Front is an ideal place to hop in for a swim - a man-made beach with a jetty, plenty of nooks in the rock to leave your clothes, and a pontoon further out in the water which children jump off on warmer days. The water is clean, clear, and mineral-y, and it can be calm or choppy depending on the weather. Do a web search for the water temperature - and if it's cold, only stay in the water for a safe amount of time. Lake Garda is one of the best spots in the world for 'wild' swimming - the scenery on all sides is superb and at Malcesine, you'll be swimming with Monte Baldo on one side and the castle and old town on another. Highly recommended.
