With so many aquariums in the world, you need something which really stands out, and Okinawa Churaumi certainly offers that – in the form of a 9-metre whale shark. The main Kuroshio Sea Tank has a giant window stretching over two floors, providing jaw-dropping views of the sea life within.

    An amazing aquarium, but there were busloads of extremely...

    An amazing aquarium, but there were busloads of extremely rude tourists from the PRC who would walk right in front of you and block your view when you were about to take photos. We left because of them and came back after lunch when they had gone. However, some others who were not in tour groups had us gob-smacked at how rude they were. A pair of wealthy-looking women smiled beautifully at my wife excusing themselves for passing her, only to stand right in front of her blocking her view. When one of them posed for a photo, I thought that was a picture of a truely horrible person.
