Exceptional basic accommodation. Maria is an excellent cook. Great for hummingbird, tanager, toucan endemics. Several kilometers of cloud forest trails and dirt roads, some easy walking, others a little steep and muddy.

Mashpi Lodge is located inside Ecuador’s Mashpi Natural Reserve and has a unique biology research focus.

Loved absolutely everything about Mashpi Lodge. From the moment they picked me up in Quito to the time I was dropped off, I felt genuinely cared for and completely looked after. What really stood out was how seamless and personalized the whole experience felt. There are so many guided activities and nature experiences (hikes, wildlife viewing, canopy adventures, and more), and everything was incredibly well organized and thoughtfully coordinated. The rooms are comfortable, the food is delicious, and the staff is truly exceptional—warm, attentive, and genuinely passionate about making your stay unforgettable. Mashpi isn’t just a hotel; it’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience, and I can’t recommend it highly enough.

This property location is magical; I had a great stay. The rain forest is superb; the hot jacuzzi is great. The staff is very helpful and the cabins are comfortable. Hope to come back one day!

Great place for a family stay. Our family enjoyed the pool and saw beautiful birds (including rufous Motmots and a toucan) in the gardens. We appreciated the quiet and security of the private location. The breakfast brought to our suite was delicious and more even than our teens could eat. We appreciated having the mini-fridge and microwave. Staff were attentive and accommodating. Would stay here again for sure.

The surroundings & care of the grounds were Beautiful ,fabulous furnishing made our stay comfortable, delicious breakfast every morning & if you’re interested in dinner also Yummy. Everyone was helpful in knowing what tours to go on. Also it’s close to town or just stay up near the lodge where there’s are restaurants on side of mountain road .

Beautiful spaces inside and out, clean, tidy, and updated. The room for my family of 3 was gorgeous with a balcony and view of the garden and mountains. Beds were so cozy, room temperatures comfy, and everything clean. Breakfast was AMAZING. All other food was good but my personal opinion is that for Ecuadorian foods, best to eat from a local eatery since this restaurant has its own take on it and it’s not the same at all as local cuisine. Pool was great, we made good use out of it even though the days weren’t so hot. Cons: walk to the town wasn’t far but the hotel is secluded so on one occasion for us, the late night walk at night was a bit scary! Taxi is very cheap though so hotel is accessible just something to consider if you’d like to be on foot mostly. Conclusion: I would love to stay here again and would definitely recommend!

The Casa Divina eco lodge was a divine property! We stayed here for two nights, and felt like we were truly staying in a jungle treehouse. The cabins were so comfortable with a great cross-breeze, and we loved the 3rd floor observatory deck above the check in building; we even ended up falling asleep in the hammocks! It was quite easy to call a taxi to / from the property to Mindo, and we even walked into town a few times. The breakfasts were also super tasty, and included fresh fruits and juice, waffles one day and an omelet the next, and all the coffee. We didn’t end up partaking in any of their offered bird watching tours, but we enjoyed walking around the property amongst the tropical plants and birds! Finally, we really appreciated all the efforts they made towards making the property sustainable and eco-friendly!

The family-run Cabañas Armonía y Jardín de Orquídeas is located in the El Progreso neighborhood, 2 blocks from Mindo's main street.

We loved our stay here. Really nice location because it's in the town but still feels quiet and secluded. The family who owns the hotel couldn't have been nicer and more accommodating! And the property is gorgeous, it feels like you're in the middle of the jungle.

This is one of the best hotels I have ever stayed at...and I've visited 60 + countries. The view from the rooms across the road are exceptional. This is truly a unique hotel, with careful attention put into the rooms, the window sizing and placement to make you feel as though you are in a tree house in the middle of the forest. The tub on the deck was a fun treat for our kids to relax in after a long day of activities. It was quiet and secluded but within minutes of all the hiking, river experiences and zip lining. My kids loved Toby the dog. We have 7 people in our family and the 3 bedroom houses fit us perfectly. I would suggest if you rent a car to get a 4 wheel drive, as the roads up to the rooms across from the main lodge is rather steep, though there is a lower parking lot you can easily park at. The food in the restaurant was Also great. Lots of hummingbirds feeding at dinner and breakfast.
