Lodgings in Appenzell

A wonderful stay in the central area of Appenzell. The Hotel Lowen was a flat 5 minute walk from the train station and easy to find. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Our rooms were spacious, delightfully decorated (stayed in the historic section) and very comfortable. Beds were great and bathroom a good size with nice sized linens. Wifi was very good and there were ample number of sockets for charging my electronics, one was right by the bed. Lighting was excellent. The breakfast area was spacious as well with an excellent offering of food. Multiple dining and shopping opportunities were right outside our door and quiet walks were just four minutes away. Would stay here again if visiting Appenzell.

Hotel was located right downtown- perfect location. Very spacious room for my family. Quiet enough that my dog was unbothered the whole trip. Very comfortable

Pretty hotel right in heart of town and only 5 minute walk to Hbf. Very clean, well decorated and comfortable room. Good breakfast buffet and restaurant.

It was uniquely distant from the city which necessitated utilizing a taxi to and from. Its facilities include a campground which seemed to be very popular with the locals and added to its uniqueness. The rooms were excellent and the people were even better. The language there is dominantly German and there wasn’t as much English spoken there as elsewhere in Switzerland. However that was a very minor inconvenience. The people were extremely accommodating and I loved the experience. It was a terrific experience

Great location in Appenzell. Short walk to shops and train station. Staff was very friendly and helpful. We used the sauna after a day of hiking in the rain. Just what we needed! They stored our luggage overnight while we hiked to Aescher to stay one night.

The best place to stay in Appenzell offers breathtaking views and feels straight out of a fairy tale. The hotel has been newly renovated and features an Italian restaurant downstairs, so you don't even need to drive into town. What impressed us the most about this hotel was not just the stay or the location, but the exceptional service we received. From the moment we arrived, Polina came out to help us with our luggage and stroller, even carrying our baby up to the third floor while we managed the rest of our things. When we requested hot water, she promptly brought us a kettle. She also provided berries for our baby, arranged our table for breakfast the next day, and even prepared apple puree for our little one. The list of her thoughtful assistance goes on. Whatever we needed, Polina was there to help. Throughout our trip in Switzerland, we had not encountered anyone as dedicated to caring for guests as she was. Polina also shared local attractions, food recommendations, and hiking tips with us, making my wife's time enjoyable as they discussed various topics. During checkout, she surprised us with a thoughtful souvenir. I highly recommend this hotel to families visiting Appenzell.

Claudia went above and beyond. When pur train was canceled she came to the station to give us a ride.

This house was cozy and old fashioned and homey. Everything we needed to make a meal and stay in was available. The host greeted us and was so welcoming. The view of the mountains around, covered in snow, was beautiful. They even put around a few decorations, as it was Christmas! We walked from the train station, and even in the dark in the cold, it was about about 10 minutes.

It’s a nice cozy studio on the ground floor. The host lives in the same house, but the entrance is individual. There’s everything you need to cook. The area for cooking is quite small :) beds are comfortable. It’s very dark and quiet at night, nothing disturbs your sleeping. The house is about 15 min walk from the station, a little uphill. I guess there is a taxi, but we never used it. Also we got the Appenzell tourist card which is a real deal! Free transport in the region and 2 rides on funiculars + other perks like museums, pool, tennis, yoga etc. You can check the brochure.

Quiet and comfortable, but very close walking distance to everything in town.

Wow, what an awesome time. We got a message a few days before, from the Alte Metzg staff, offering a free upgrade to the Boutique Pension — so this review is for that — but that was so random and wonderful. The space we clean, cute, spacious — amazing coffee, tons of ability to cook, close to bakeries and town. Not much to do in the town, but this space was great.
