Great breakfast on a high floor for a view. Great that they had public bath facilities and easy to use laundry!
The facility was clean and neat and the staff extremely welcoming and friendly. We appreciated it that the property allowed pets and our dog had a very comfortable stay.
Best service!!! So friendly and helpful, the staff really care about you! A really hidden gem for ski holidays!
This is a stunningly beautiful old Japanese-style house a short walk from Tsurugi station. The architecture and decorations are amazing, and it seemed like every room had a great view of a garden. I really enjoyed my stay there, and appreciated the chance to experience a traditional home. The host is very sweet. Some things to note: * There's now a lock on the front door, so no need to carry your valuables with you or inform the host when leaving. * There are no chairs in the entire house. Be prepared to sit on cushions on the floor. * Baths aren't allowed, but the shower works fine. If the hot water isn't on, the controls are in the room with the sink and microwave, on the back wall by the towels. * I couldn't find any spoons; if you plan to eat food from the store, you might want to bring your own plates and utensils. * The bedroom next to the living room only has an overhead lamp. I had brought a nightlight, and found it extremely helpful in this situation. The flashlight on your phone would also work. If you can deal with the lack of chairs, I highly recommend staying here for a glimpse into Japanese history.
We absolutely Love the owners. This place is fabulous!!!!
Perfect place, feels very homey and nice. The sweet old man running the place is just the best person in the world, always checking in seeing we have everything and if we need anything. Could not have been any happier
Very nice and modern fixtures, with wonderful bedding and plenty of outlets. Close enough to necessities and major attractions in the area while also being away from the hustle and bustle of the city itself. Huge stockpile of cedar to keep the wood stove going and heat the entire home - a very nice and rare feature. Wi-fi speeds were great, which was good for telework.
Kontani-san is the most caring host we met on our 3 week adventure in Japan and the house has an unforgettable character! He gave us plenty of local recommendations on where to eat and where to go (also created custom made itinerary for us) and was always open for our questions. Thanks to him we were able to get to know Japanese culture a little deeper. We had lovely tastings with him in the sake bar which is also located in the house and will never forget this stay!
This is our best stay in Japan ... if you want to experience with Japanese an old house like shirakawago but with full modern modification ... This is the place ... stay and enjoy the area with a very small population but also a very kind heart welcoming from the mother of the host . The location must be reached by private car, and please provide your own food to bring .. you can cook here ... there's no restaurant or shop around.... just green and slow ... Thankyou okasan ... we will come back someday 🙏
Nice location near Mount Haku National Park and very good water pressure in the shower.
The breakfast was excellent and made with fresh ingredients. The room was nondescript but the bed was comfortable and the room was very clean. The staff was very helpful and friendly. I was the only foreigner staying in the hotel and the staff were very patient with my lack of Japanese.
Breakfast had a good variety of western and Japanese options. We went to dinner at the in house steak restaurant on the 8th floor. We were served by a waitress in kimono. Several courses as we watched the sun set.
Very very comfortable huge bed and free parking! We loved our stay here.
Friendly host and staff. Really made our stay enjoyable. Rooms were clean and comfortable. It really felt like home.
Awesome location, nice size room for the money. Felt so private and cozy. Very close walk to the train and you'll pick up your keys at the station upon arrival. Very easy! Employees are really nice, you are in a small town so please be respectful and plan ahead. If you want to do the BBQ it is done by the host to plan accordingly when scheduling.
