Rooms are spacious, beds are comfy. I think it was my best sleep in any hotel I have ever stayed in. There is also an electric heater under the futon, if you need one.
Just like other reviewers mentioned, In the morning we were given a breakfast that was not included in the price. It contained meat, bread, multiple vegetables and fruits. Again, the best breakfast I ever had.

This is an historic property and a landmark of Nikko. The location is amazing, just be the bridge and it is surrounded by nature. The new annex is wonderful. And the food at the restaurant is extremely good and elaborated. The hotel has its own bakery which is a real treat. The hotel displays lots of historical features and it is like a museum.

Amazing hotel, lovely rooms and facilities. The Sky Spa was incredible! Helpful and friendly staff. Excellent location base to travel to Nikko and Mashiko. We will be back!

I liked everything. Very close to train station, the room is spacious and I had a room with a very nice view of the mountains. They have indoor onsen (ofuro). The breakfast was also small but with a good variety of items. They also have lockers to keep your luggage before/after stay for 100yen, much cheaper than at the station. And also just beside the hotel there is a good Ramen restaurant and a convenience store across the street.

This hotel is fantastic if you wish to get away from it all. The nature of the hotel is such that it is designed to be on the lake and away from the town so do know that there isn't much around this hotel.
The on site onsen is actually really nice and was wonderful way to end or start the day.

The location is very good. It's just 300-500m from kegon falls. Rooms are spacious despite having three bunk beds with a capacity of six adults in a room.
It's just a guesthouse not a full fledged hotel room so bare minimum expectations were met.

Amazing facilities and set-up, they provide free snacks and drink in the common area, table tennis table is great and really nice hotel, it is about an hour from the train station by buss, bit a beautiful location and great for hiking, but not so good for the shrines, that said you can probably see the shrines on either the way there or the way back as they are close to the train station!
They do the little things well for example they provide a mini fire with marshmallows downstairs which is a small thing that is just really nice!

The owner was the best company, the stay was beyond good, we enjoyed it as a couple travelling through japan. We recomend sleeping in futons, it is a great experience. You can easily cook there, and the owner has great recommendation for sake and for visiting around. The place is surrounded by beautiful nature and waterfalls. A exquisitely hot bath is always ready in the morning which makes the owner a superhero. Thank you so much for the experience, we'll come back for sure!

Hotel is 1.7 km from train and shops surrounded by nature.Staff was excellent in every aspect. Even drove me to an 7/11shop to generate a bus ticket. Daily life is getting harder due to digital changes without Japanese skills.

Old fashion style hotel. There is lots of amenities like game room, karaoke, table tenis, billiard or manga room. The public onsen is nice, but unfortunately without view. Maybe private onsen has better view, because it is on the 2. floor, but I used it in the night, so I'm not sure.

Absolutely perfect. What a wonderful place to stay, we had 3 nights here and can't fault it.
The hosts are welcoming and very informative about the accommodation and the area.
It was like having our own home in Japan, very special.
Lots to do in the area and easy to access using buses, trains or just walking.

It was an excellent stay. The location is very convenient for exploring Nikko and the inn has amazing river views. The room was spacious, modern and very clean. The best part about our overnight stay was the owners - really warm, friendly and welcoming, gave us great information on places to see. Overall it was a highlight of our trip, much better than any hotels. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone and will be coming back to this inn on our next trip to Japan.

The Annex Turtle Hotori-An is a great place to stay. It’s in a lovely and quiet location with scenic views of the surrounding hills. Well located for a number of Nikko’s attractions, it offers value for money with its own onsen and comfortable traditional Japanese style lodging.

This place is immaculately clean. Never have I seen such a clean hotel. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The rooms are large and comfortable. The bedding is on the floor and might be a little thin for some, but we managed to sleep well here. They provide lovely robe and toiletry sets for use when using their onsen facilities. The shampoo bar in the women’s onsen is fantastic. Location is great, step outside and you’re 1 min from the Shinkyo Bridge. I would definitely stay here if in Nikko again.

I think this was the most comfortable bed that I have experienced in Japan, hotels and ryokans included... I don't know why, but I really had the best sleep of my whole trip. The location is great, just next to the station, and the owner is happu to offer some suggestions of were to eat and what to visit on your next days. I will definetly come back if I have the chance :)

The location is great just a stroll away from the Nikko Toshogu Shrine. We enjoy the traditional Japanese decor of the hotel, and sleeping in futons. The room is clean. The outdoor onsen is great.
