It's an old style Japanese home that's been converted into a guesthouse, but the charm and thoughtful design are well retained. It's ~10 minutes walking from the train station, maybe another 20-30 minutes to the fishing marine, and everything in Yakumo is a peaceful delight. :]

Wonderful, delicious, home cooked breakfast with local products (fresh scallops from a neighbor fisherperson!; local vegetables). Cozy, comfortable, typical minshuku rooms, with futons. Very friendly, kind and welcoming grandmother. All around, great value for the price. Nice shared shower.

It was an elementary school converted into a hostel/ camp. We had a private room which was the music room. The view was just fabulous! And the room was huge! We were welcomed by a staff who kindly gave us a quick tour. The shared bathroom and toilet facilities were clean.
