I had the pleasure of staying at Ancient Illukawela Walauwa, and it was truly a memorable experience. The heritage and charm of the property are unmatched — you can feel the history in every corner of this beautifully preserved walauwa. Surrounded by lush greenery and peaceful surroundings, it’s the perfect escape from the chaos of modern life. The hospitality was exceptional. The hosts were warm, welcoming, and eager to share stories about the estate’s rich past. If you’re looking for a unique, serene, and culturally rich stay, I highly recommend Illukawela Walauwa. It’s not just accommodation — it’s an experience.

The bathroom that separates the shower area from the toilet! This was the only place where we didn’t have to wipe up the toilet seat after taking a shower in Sri Lanka. The hot shower, cooling a/c, clean bed linens and towels,,things that are standard in the western countries are not always the case in Sri Lanka, so this was really a nice experience. The staff were really nice as well.

very convenient to every needs at a town as a location. well maintained property outdoors. comfortable rooms and beds. there was only one person who had taken extra steps to satisfy my experience during my stay, that was “Viduranga” i believe that name is correct.

This place is a rare find in Sri Lanka. Trust the pictures, it is everything that is shown and more. The green view from the coziest terrace is so vivid, it was eye popping. Great breakfasts and hospitality. The owner is a man of many talents.

EdenHaven cottage is most definitely a garden of Eden and a Haven from the rat race. the cottages are both modern and traditional with striking little artisan touches. the shower room is beautifully appointed. the outdoor private veranda was most relaxing, the lighting, natural teak wood floors and furniture are all the inspiration and imagination of a most hospitable and charming young man Anju. he couldn’t have arranged and done more for my husband and I. our breakfast, evening meals were varied, tasty and juicy. waking up to and settling into the evenings were harmonious, the garden produced the sounds of nature that send you to sleep and invite a new day. i can’t say enough about this open , warm, genuine family hospitality. i didn’t want you to leave. last but not least. my husband, Anju and his safari colleague Lasindu arranged to have my 61st birthday breakfast within the safari on top of a plateau overlooking the national park. cake , presents and a wonderful rendition of happy birthday could be heard by the whole national park… tearful and most privileged to have such attention to genuine detail. Anju and Lasindu and ian of course. thank you from the bottom of my heart for one of thee most memorable experiences.

The owner was super nice and helpful. He built all these houses by himself and tried his best to make you comfortable. Welcome fresh juice on arrival. The house is simple but made with care and the bed was huge and comfortable. The dinner was delicious. Also we suggest to book a safari with the owner.

This is a great stop of for visiting the nearby safari. Everything was great. A real family atmosphere where everyone tries to make your stay as memorable as possible. They arranged a Valentines surprise for us, a cooking course which was incredible and thorough and also a great safari. Lovely big cool room too. Wonderful value too.

We stayed in one of the most beautiful cabanas of our trip to Sri Lanka, with a view over a small river full of birds and little animals. It was incredibly peaceful and relaxing. The bed was comfortable, and there was a lovely little terrace where we enjoyed our coffee, tea, and welcome drink. We also had both dinner and breakfast there — both meals were superb. The service was very good overall.
