- From $131.73 per nightScored out of 10, guest rating 8.8Excellent - What previous guests thought, 1,270 reviewsFrom check-in to checkout the staff was friendly and helpful. I don't speak any Portuguese at all and I was either helped by someone that spoke English or they found someone who could help me. All with a minimum of fuss. My personal travel style is to walk about in the neighborhood and find interesting local places to eat. I did that at this location, just walking around until I found a fantastic barbeque place for lunch. I did a little more exploration of the dock areas at the end of the alleys along the waterfront. I also spent a few hours strolling around the Mangal das Garças, just about a hundred yards around the corner. It has manicured gardens, birds, a lighthouse, and a greenhouse coffee shop. The area surrounding the hotel is the old town of Bélem. The hotel is quite different than the surroundings, but I found that interesting, particularly the juxtaposition to th overgrown building next door. I found the area to be safe and friendly during my walks. I took a relaxing soak in the pool before dinner. There are gym and spa facilities I didn't use. I had reviewed the hotel's dinner menu earlier, upon arrival and, that night, treated myself to a wonderfully prepared seafood dinner, sitting under the stars in the central courtyard. My room was large, very clean, and had a fantastic shower. In the morning I took advantage of the breakfast buffet. It offered a variety of choices for different breakfast styles and I found it very good. I Uber'ed from the Bélem airport and returned the same way. The location of the hotel could be useful if you are planning to connect with an upstream boat. The combination of friendly staff and a premium room made the Atrium my best hotel experience in Brazil!Guest review byJurgenUnited States

Learn Portuguese. They don't speak English. Find out if your credit card can use PIX. Cashless payments everywhere. Even simple vendors on the market use PIX. I recommend utinga park and Mangal da Garcas. I came last days of May, quite hot starting starting 12 o'clock. But seems to cool off again at 14 o'clock.Guest review bytyrizeSuriname - 8.0
There was a mix up at the Barrudada check in.
There was a mix up at the Barrudada check in. I thought I reserved a room type online at Booking.com for 3 people but they said it was for 2. Also in Brazil they are very picky about the exact number of people in a room and no more than 3. The hotel check in process is very long also.Guest review byKirbyUnited States - 8.0
Nice village with wonderful beaches nearby.
Nice village with wonderful beaches nearby. The boat tours usually take the entire day and I really recommend taking them instead of staying in Alter if you do not have too much time. Alter is growing fast and a bit out of control, it is also the weekend place from the people from Santarém. During the week it is quiet and Ilha do Amor is not very crowded. Also do not miss the Carimbó!Guest review byRicardoNetherlands - 10.0

Deep into the interior of Para, on the map Maraba looks somewhat uninspiring: we were headed there only because it was a convenient stop on the Vale railway passenger train route. But we really enjoyed our stay. A comfortable hotel (the Sao Bento). Several very good restaurants. An interesting old town and riverside promenade along the Rio Tocatins. Best of all, jaguar encounters at the Fundacao Zoologico In the forest south of town.Guest review byMac S.Ireland - 8.0

Belem is a port town. Use Uber or taxi at night. Try going to the surrounding island. Very nice. No ferry Sunday to Marajo from Belem as far as I could see. Could be private ones. Not sure. Need to book one week in advance to Marajo online. Can buy tickets when your in BelemGuest review byPerry SwitzerUnited States - 8.0
The most interesting part of Santarem
The most interesting part of Santarem is the boardwalk along the Tapajos river from where you can see the Amazon and the Tapajos waters come together. You can book boat tours to visit the area or just walk around and watch the public transportation boats that go up and down the river.Guest review byMartinaUnited States - 8.0
Too trendy and noisy now-a-days.
Too trendy and noisy now-a-days. It is also quite expensive for some of the services offered. It used to be much better (as most tourist places in Brazil). Travelers and boat owners insist on playing loud and boring music through out their staying on the beaches or during sunset, for instance. As if everyone around had to have the same bad taste for music! Alter is also dirty and it is clear neither the government nor the tourists play their roles. VERY sad!!!!Guest review byBia OnofreBrazil - 8.0

Well off the tourist trail, Maraba is a relaxed, mostly modern city deep into the state of Para on the Rio Tocatins, with an interesting and attractive old port area. Several interesting sights, and a rainforest wild animal rehabilitation park south of the city with jaguars, ocelots, tapirs anteater etc. Vale's efficient and reliable Ferrovia Carajas runs passenger trains from Sao Luis to Maraba 3 times a week.Guest review byMac S.Ireland - 8.0
Belem is a once wealthy city that has fallen into decline.
Belem is a once wealthy city that has fallen into decline. Like many Brazilian cities, it has a serious crime problem, but unlike other Brazilian cities, it doesn't have the living behind walls feel that other cities have and has pretty good walkability, but that ever present feeling of crime is there so use common sense and don't be afraid to ask about safety. The residents are familiar with their city and will be honest as to where and when you can walk and where you should take Ubers instead. Architecture, historic and modern, is spectacular but often covered in graffiti and mildew with the latter the inevitable result of a city that was carved out of the Amazon Rain Forest. The cultural attractions like churches, museums, and gardens are incredible as are the markets. Belem restaurants have the best food I've eaten in Brazil and that alone is reason enough to visit. I was only there a few days, but I will go back. Beware, the heat and humidity in the day is brutal and expect torrential rains at any time, but at night, it's much more comfortable to be outside. Brazilians are some of most hospitable, laid back, and beautiful people on earth. Come here and enjoy the culture, hospitality, and beauty. You won't be disappointed.Guest review byEricUnited States - 10.0
