I arrive via the high speed rail from Hong Kong to Guangzhou East station (aka - Guangzhoudong). It was only a short taxi ride to the hotel. Amazing location near many shopping malls, food, coffee in walking distance. The room was large and looks newly renovated. The staff was very attentive and helpful. Definitely would comeback.

We had a truly enjoyable stay at Arthur Hotel LiWan Coco Park during the Canton Fair. While the hotel offers an airport shuttle, they recommend taking a taxi instead—which we found to be more cost-effective when using Alipay (just $3–$4 USD to the fair, compared to around CNY 200 otherwise). What really stood out was the hospitality. Simon and his team were incredibly attentive—quick to respond to messages and genuinely caring. Simon made an effort to learn every guest’s name and even provided snack bags for our return trip from the fair. It felt more like staying with family than at a hotel. The shuttle service runs twice daily to and from the Canton Fair and was reliable and punctual. The hotel itself is a small boutique property, and while there is new construction still in progress around the area, it didn’t interfere with our stay. In fact, the rooms were more modern and better designed than some of the larger, pricier hotels we’ve stayed at. Every inch of space was thoughtfully used, featuring smart gadgets and a surprisingly spacious layout. Breakfast was another highlight, with a generous spread of both local specialties and American-style options. Overall, this hotel offers great value, comfort, and personalized service. Highly recommended, especially for Canton Fair visitors.

Upon arrival, we had thought we lost our bag in the taxi, and we contacted the staff. Galen, a young staff, persistently tried to help us out. He even agreed to help us call a taxi driver to see if the bag was in the taxi. He was very empathetic, and he was very candid about where he thinks the bag was. So, without giving up, we contacted a taxi driver, and we were able to actually retrieve the bag in the trunk, despite what the taxi driver had said initially. Because of Galen, it made the rest of us stay a lot more memorable. He even went out of his way to be personable as well, and this is the kind of experience we look for in a high-end hotel. A personalized help. And because of this experience, we look forward to coming back and staying at this hotel in the future.

    Caveat - I speak conversational Mandarin & Cantonese enough to understand most things. It makes a huge difference. The staff are extremely helpful and accommodating. You want pillows? No problem. Wifi is slow? They send a tech up to you. The Wifi is supposed to force a login, but it doesn't always do it. The tech guy comes and calls somebody and the "VPN" is fantastic. No speed or lag issues. But you have to call and inform them. Shoutout to Mr Singh, from guest services. He was excellent. Around the corner of the hotel are many food options ... the train is just outside the hotel but the simplest thing when traveling is just take Didi everywhere. A regular taxi costs slightly more and you run the risk of being lost in translation. Didi is just better - also cheap. The ride to Baiyun T2 from the hotel only costs 70RMB. I brought some cash my friend passed me. In 7 days, I used RMB59 because the Alipay didn't work in one eatery. It's totally cashless.

    The choice of restaurants was good and the food quality was excellent. We went for business primarily. It’s not a city I would choose for tourism. Extremely disappointed with the Canton Tower experience. Most certainly wouldn’t waste your money on this.

    Foshan is a busy town but feels more relaxed compared to Guangzhou. There are markets, local stalls, two malls, and plenty of places to grab bubble teas and fresh juices, including small family-run stands. Lots of local restaurants serve Chinese and Canton-style food. McDonald’s, KFC, Domino’s, Starbucks, supermarkets, and several 7-Elevens are all just a few minutes away on foot. The train station is about a solid 20-minute walk Go here for the BEST Peking duck I’ve ever tasted Hu Shuai's home · fruit wood charcoal roasted duck (Jinke Building Store) No.29, Qingfeng West Road, Nanhai District, Qiandeng Lake C+ (opposite to Poly Tian Yue)

    Highly recommend only staying in this region especially if you are shopping for building materials and furniture. Many places will send Didi cars to pick you up. Canton Fair is only 1 hr away depending on traffic. Guangzhou is only 45 mins away depending on traffic and what time you leave.

    Once we had uploaded the Didi taxi app and the Google translator we were pretty well sorted. Get these things sorted before you arrive - book your taxi from the train station to your hotel to avoid being ripped off - we paid 150 Yen and it should have only been 30 - lesson learned. The people are wonderful and were very kind. They are shy about their English but most young people have some and will give it a shy try. A visit to the parks and the Opium War museum is a must and do try the ice cream!!!
