Really everything! Beautiful hotel. Perfect location in the heart of Épernay. Wonderful reception. The staff helped us with everything to organize a perfect weekend. The recommended champagne houses and restaurants were excellent. Beautiful, brand new room. The best bed and bedding ever. Our room was in the “old” part of the house which was a beautiful mix of tradition and modern comfort. Good breakfast. We appreciated the gym and sauna. Excellent parking with lots of chargers for EV’s.

The hotel was absolutely beautiful. The design was stunning and fit beautifully with the aesthetic of the champagne house. The beds and pillows were very comfortable. An added bonus when we checked in they had upgraded our room which was lovely. Having the spa on site is also great and a lovely way to relax. I can’t recommend this place enough for a stay in Reims. The location is also excellent, a few minutes walk from town and close to the station too.

The hotel has recently reopened, under new ownership after closing during Covid. The new owners have clearly but a lot of effort into smartening up the rooms. We were given a complimentary galss of champagne when we arrived.

Reims had more to offer than we could have explored in the short time we were there. There is enough history to keep you interested, ranging from the Notre Dame, to other buildings that still show the signs of the war. It is interesting to see the obvious signs of how the city was rebuilt over time. While the city is very Champagne focused the majority of producers are out of the centre but there are enough wine shops that you don't have to travel far to taste some exceptional small producer champagne, be prepared to spend, you won't be disappointed

A charming town in parts, especially by the river.

A charming town in parts, especially by the river. We took a boat ride on the canal which was lovely. Some great places to eat and no shortage of bars and a few good champagne bars. Plus we were only an hour away from Verdun war graves and memorials which was thought provoking and emotional.

This hotel is situated outside the city centre, on the banks for the river that flows through the city. However, it’s not in the romantic area but seemed to be closer to the light industrial centre. It was relatively easy to find though. The rooms were a bit on the small side and ok for a night. There is a good restaurant 10-15 minutes walk away along the road, so the group I was with went there, then walked back for a not-very-good night’s sleep. Parking was good. There’s space in front of the hotel, but for added security, there is another parking area behind the hotel where access is controlled by a heavy gate that is locked overnight. Right opposite is a supermarket with a fuel station, so that was handy.

Ay is very pretty but very small.

Ay is very pretty but very small. Not a lot to do. 2 nice restaurants/bars very close to the apartment. Two bakeries, a butchers, a post office and a small supermarket close to the apartment but only open at specific times. A larger supermarket is a couple of kilometres away. The champange/wine bar also serves lovely charcuterie boards.

Like many rural French towns, there is not much going on.

Like many rural French towns, there is not much going on. However, we had a very relaxing stay. We walked from the chateau around the vineyards and farm fields. We dined in a lovely restaurant in the town and had a very interesting tour and tasting at Verrier et Fils a unique family owned champagne house.

🗓️ I found that a 2 night weekend was just a bit too short, a long 3 or 4 night weekend could have been better. If you plan to see more than this village I would say a week for slower travel and explore other areas. 🏫 Hautvillers has great views, it is a very picturesque village, with quaint houses and cute streets all around. Everywhere you look there are flowers, wall creepers and makes you feel like you are in a fairytale village. There were great views of the vinyards on the edge of town. 👥 I would recommend this village to friends, couples, solo travellers and only families with dogs, babies or older kids, there is not much to do for children. The village is walkable and there are are enough champagne houses to see in a weekend. ⚠️ I would strongly recommend booking your lunch and dinners as the restaurants are limited and fill up quickly. We were however able to eat charcuterie and cheese boards at many of the champagne houses / winebars which satisfied us. We did drive out for the dinner on our second night as we weren't able to eat in town as all restaurants were fully booked. 🐕 Dog friendly village, we were able to take our dog almost everywhere with a terrace, we didn't end up doing this as the heat was too much she enjoyed our apartment with tiles instead. There were enough grassy patches near the edges of town to walk her.

Worth the trip, will go back, cannot recommend it enough!

Worth the trip, will go back, cannot recommend it enough! https://mariaonpoint.com/a-perfect-getaway-in-champagne-france-and-everything-i-packed-to-get-there/ Day 1: Reims Morning: Started our day at Maison Ruinart tasting some bubbly. You can do a tour, have an extravagant lunch or dinner or simply swing by to enjoy a tasting or a couple of glasses of their champagne and walk around the beautiful property, which is surrounded by stunning art installations. Google reviews may say that you can’t go unless you have a reservation, don’t pay attention to it. We went and had a great time! I wore this cute Doen Ischia dress that was perfect for French countryside, versatile, comfortable and simple yet elegant. Light for the hotter afternoons and beautiful for champagne tastings throughout the day. Afternoon: Cafe Clicquot Early lunch at Cafe Cliquot because I’m a fan, love the story of Widow Cliquot, such a strong boss woman role model; I’ve been to their Carnival in Miami and had to swing by their only permanent Cafe. When in Reims, right? Evening: Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Reims is a UNESCO World Heritage Centre site, sat across from it and just looked at it for a while, every corner was so breathtaking, walked all over town, the cobblestone square is cute. Plenty of cafes and restaurants to go to go for a glass of champagne, wine or whatever you are in the mood for. You can have a cheese plate or a full dinner. The city center has more popular places from high end to quick bites and the shops of course. You can vary depending on your mood.
