Elegant, spacious bathroom, deep closets and a panoramic view of the countryside from my room. Staff were all gracious and helpful. The location is perfect. It is surrounded by natural beauty and historic buildings. Vezelay and the this area of Burgundy is truly beautiful. Everyone I encountered was friendly and generous with their time.

It is a quaint road house in rural France. They were very accommodating allowing us to arrive late (after 1:00) Everything was as agreed and the great communication with the owner made everything smooth. This is especially appreciated after a long trip with late arrival. The room was large and easily slept 4 adults. The hot shower felt great and the French water is fantastic.

    The location is good. Convenient for the village & the Basilica. The building structure is attractive, it needs to be more eye catching & brightening up. Paint, pots of plants. The bed was fine, clean white sheets & comfortable. There is a lack of surfaces & hooks in the bathroom. Difficulty in finding space to put toiletries & no hooks to hang even a shower cap on. Provided by myself. The room rate is very acceptable but it does lack user friendly facilities. The chamber maid/housekeeper does a good job. The reception area could do with more effort in regard to customer service. This may serve student guests but the approach for older categories needs a bit of polishing up.

    Le Moulin Des Ruats was a wonderful surprise. Our room was very nice, clean and comfortable. The surrounding area was absolutely beautiful and easy to access. Dinner was delicious and the breakfast buffet was very nice with the option to order added items which we did not take advantage of. The staff was personable and helpful. They understood some English and appreciated our attempt at French.

    The location was beautiful! Hiking opportunities all around in this lovely countryside. The staff was very friendly and professional. Though they don’t speak much English, we still had no trouble with communication. Google translate was helpful, as was just knowing a few common words in French.     Avallon is an attractive market town in northern Burgundy. It is immersed in beautiful countryside, and is of a manageable size for walking around, sampling the shops, cafes, and restaurants, and enjoying the Burgundian architecture. It is quiet in May. It can be a nice base for a few days to adventure to nearby sites such as Vezelay and the Bazoche chateau.

    Cathedral is great. The roman ruins are pretty good. The town is wonderful to walk around in. In the evening everyone was gone and the streets were quiet and wonderful. The old town is just what you would think old France was like. We only explored half of it, so we are coming back on a future trip!

    Vézelay is a crazy place.

    Vézelay is a crazy place. It is hyped up in every tourist guide on the Bourgogne you can find, but it is actually a one street village on the top of a mountain whose only attraction is an oversized cathedral on the Way of St. James, and some tourist shops for decorative arts (if you like that). Rural exodus is unmistakable, there are several buildings for sale, and the ladies who run the hotel where we stayed told us that the village has only 70 regular inhabitants left, the rest are pilgrims and tourists. We only stayed for one night, passing through on our way back home, and for us it was perfect as it was. The hotel (Les Glycines) was great, very recommendable, the surrounding landscape is beautiful and possibly nice to explore wandering (we didn't try). Vézelay also seems to be a hot spot for pilgrims who find company there.

    Nice little town. Excellent base to visiting the Morvan. Many walks nearby. Wonderful places to visit: Autun, Avallon, Semur-en Auxois, Vezelay***, Auxerre. Beautiful lakes. The town boasts one of the best restaurants of France, if not the whole world. It is truly mythical. But it will cost you an arm and a leg. If you stay in an apartment you can enjoy buying your own food in the many shops. Or on the saturday market.

    Easy to visit Roman remains, all free of charge. Bibracte Gallo-Roman centre nearby too. Many interesting villages close by and some interesting insights into life on the canals in times gone by in Grignon and district. Free parking everywhere.

    A beautifully restored town with tons of history and local crafts, foods, art, etc. A close association with music, there was a music festival over 4 days with the main performers within and behind the Cathedral. We wished we had stayed another day!
