"Chalkida is a unique city with a canal and an old bridge famous for its "crazy waters" meaning the high and low tide which you can actually see . It has beautiful cafés on the promenade in front of the canal fantastic shopping, lots of pedestrian streets for good quality shopping, great food. It is a great escape from Athens for a weekend or a couple of days at the entrance of Evia island. You can go to further destinations in Evia easily. I would highly recommend the city for a short stay. Bear in mind that it is difficult to get around by car but the parking spots are very affordable. I would recommend the seaside of Lefkanti 20 min away"

"Pension Posidonia is really beautiful - we had a lovely balcony overlooking the sea, surrounded by a garden full of oleander and other flowers. The free sunbeds and umbrellas are on the doorstep, the beach is lovely, and the views are stunning. We swam all day and sunbathed then wandered a 5 minute walk to good seafood restaurants overlooking the sea. Shops are even closer, everywhere was very accessible. Our delightful host recommended Louis, one of the many restaurants, and was incredibly warm, welcoming and helpful in every way. She speaks excellent English, and ordered us our taxi to the airport when we - reluctantly! - had to go home. Definitely 5 stars!"

"A great hotel in a relaxed beach side village. The hotel and village are family/child friendly. The beaches are lovely and the hotel is in a prime location, walking distance to the ferry, beaches and the waterfront restaurants, no need for a car if you just want a relaxing stay. We were surprised at the high quality as the hotel was so reasonably priced."

"I've been a lot in Sardinia (Alghero, La Madelena, Olbia, Baja Sardinia,...) because I love sea and beaches (most beautiful sea beaches in EU I think) and I've been also in Corfou, Creta, Rhodes.... But in Greece I think Skyros is truelly the best I've been and might even greater than Sardinia. The island is beautiful with amazing beaches for all tastes, and beautiful spots. I think there is a perfect mix of rough-roots spots with locals, and more elaboraed and refined place such as Ammeoudia Beach Bars. The beach bars in Molos and anywhere are mostly really well done with amazing view, respectfully integrated, designed with charm and taste, with good food & fresh drink at a very fair prices. Also there a re beautifl spot to enjoy watching the the amazing views, and Skyros Old Town is well preserved with a lot of charm and style. Mostly this location especially knowns by ahtenians is not too much touristic, which make everyones and especially locals at ease and laid-back."

Karistos

One of 327 reviews:
"Karistos is a small coastal town that mostly serves holiday makers from Athens. There are some fantastic restaurants which you will only find if you look carefully on Google! The same goes for stunning beaches - we found them only through searching on Google-earth, renting a car and going in search of them! You will enjoy the interesting culture and history - it is worth the short trip up the very windy mountain/hill-side to mooch around the ruins of the old castle and the stunning views from the top. There is plenty to see and explore and renting your own car is highly recommended (the rental place called *Karistos Marine* - located very close to the Anastasia hotel was absolutely brilliant - so helpful, extremely reasonable and offered a great car which we took all over Evia."

FAQs about hotels in Evia

A Well-Kept Secret

Evia (or Euboea) is the 2nd largest island of Greece and is connected with 2 bridges to the mainland. Ideal for summer and winter holidays, this unique destination features hot springs, lovely beaches, green mountains, traditional villages and a ski centre.

Located on the north-east side of Attica, Evia is a walkers' paradise thanks to the old stone paths connecting the picturesque villages with the stunning forest areas. Inhabited since prehistoric times and known for its seafood and handcrafts, Euboea also has many thermal sources.

Visit the coastal town of Edipsos and relax in one of the natural spas with the healing powers. Chalkida is the biggest town on Evia, offering a big variety of shops, restaurants and nightclubs. Around Chalkida are a number of towns, including the tourist resort of Eretria.

The charming town of Karystos is one of the most famous fishing places of Greece. Artaki, Nea Stira, Heliadou, Kimi, Angali, Agiokambos and Agios Georgis are just some of the beaches of this gorgeous island.

Evia has a wide variety of places to stay and Booking.com can help you find a nice hotel, apartment or guest house.

I don't know where to start. I haven't had such a good experience for a long time. The property is a family business and as a visitor you can see and feel it every minute. You are welcome and you are treated as a friend. Staff is always there when you need them and help you with whatever you may need. I did not hear "no" as an answer although I had many questions about different services and things which were not even related to the hotel. So they do not only care about the hotel but also about the place they are operating in. Hotel is located in Marmari which is a small village in Evia. You can Rafina-Marmari ferry to get there. From the port it's reachable by foot, but if you have a lot of things or have some trouble walking I would recommend to take a taxi as the hotel is located on top of the hill and the road is pretty steep. Our room was perfect. It was big enough and had a balcony facing the sea and the pool. Breakfast was simple but good. I would suggest to have an option to order a proper cappuccino for an extra fee as they make great coffee, but the one they have for breakfast is not as good. Pool is fantastic. Water is clean and not too warm. And what is absolutely brilliant - they are not using usual chloride but some kind of salt, so the water is gentle for eyes does not leave any bad smell to your swimwear. And now we get to the biggest surprise. I have been really sceptical about hotel restaurant and I still will be in the future, but this poolside restaurant was something different. It all starts with great people who work with passion. The service there was spot on and should be an example to many restaurants. The food was DELICIOUS! We did not plan to eat there that much, but found ourselves having a dinner two times + some snacks as well. And if you want to have your food paired with a good wine, ask for John who will find the perfect match to your appetiser, main or dessert.

We loved the calm, relaxing ambience throughout the Anastasia hotel. Our room was beautiful, with tasteful 'calming' decor, set on the corner of the hotel with a wonderful panoramic view. The breakfast is wonderful - with everything laid out from a range of fresh, healthy options, a wonderful cooked selection and home-made fresh biscuits on offer too. The staff are great - very kind and helpful and always with a smile and conversation. There is a small-ish super clean, well maintained pool right by the sea front. The hotel is not huge and so it has a lovely, personal, boutique feel to it.

Very good stay. The apartment was clean and comfortable, and you can see it has been renovated recently. The kitchen had what we needed, the bed was good, and the balcony was a nice place to sit. The location is very convenient, close to the thermal springs and the seafront. We walked most of the time. Erez was helpful and replied quickly. I would stay here again.

Nice island, very big, we only visited the lower half part.

Nice island, very big, we only visited the lower half part. The roads are very well maintained and reaching the beaches is quite easy. Water on the beaches is generally clean but usually windy all day long. The beaches are nice and clean and there are plenty around Karystos (where we stayed for our vacation). Lots of restaurants and tavernas around the island. I recommend near sea locations for sea food and fish and village tavernas away from the sea in higher areas of the island for grilled meat or local food options. Prices were reasonable for the accommodation and food. I recommend going there with own car or rent one if you like to visit several beaches, otherwise it will be difficult to reach different locations just by local transport. It is very close to Athens (about 3h driving + ferry) so if you plan to visit it is affordable.

I loved the folklore museum and driving around the island. Strangely, we seemed to get lost a lot there. We ate a a wonderful roadside taverna on our way to Linaria to catch the ferry back to Kymi. The village in Skyros is enjoyable to see and I loved running to the windmill as the sun was rising.

it was my 3rd time in Chalkida: its a 100.000 inhabitants town and its typical Greek city: dirty, loud, traffic out of control - every driver is doing what he wants. be careful when you cross the road by foot!! you have a very clean and calm shopping mall and a tourist area on the beach where is a lot of Restaurants. unfortunately, the later the evening, the louder the music. we were in Mostar meeting friends and you could not understand your own word. whats sense of so loud music in a Restaurant? around Chalkida there are a lot of wonderful, peaceful places. visit the beach areas or the Castle Cafe for a good cup! prices in most restaurants are very fair, but be careful not to be tricked: especially when you choose fish, ASK BEFORE what it will cost!
