My stay at the 4-star Hotel Astoria was an unexpectedly delightful experience, surpassing my time at a 5-star hotel in Milan in both comfort and service. If you're searching for a place to stay, Hotel Astoria truly stands out as the go-to destination.

FAQs about hotels in Liguria

A Spectacular Sea of Colour

Although one of Italy’s smallest regions, Liguria punches well above its weight for incredible scenery. Its coastline stretching from the French border to the port of La Spezia is lined with brightly coloured houses, including those spectacularly hugging cliffs in the Cinque Terre villages.

Equally impressive is Portofino harbour, one of the most beautiful in Italy. In a country that counts Venice, Sorrento and Capri amongst its harbour towns, that’s quite some accolade. Next door Rapallo has a long promenade watched over by a castle.

Levanto’s promenade is supported by pillars on the beach below and overlooks mountains descending into the Mediterranean Sea. Portovenere at the tip of a peninsula has a Gothic church on a rocky outcrop.

The Liguria capital is Genoa, Italy’s busiest port and home to one of Europe’s largest Old Towns. Varazze to the west has a sweeping beach, as does Alassio – 2 resorts with lots of Liguria hotels on the beach on Booking.com. A fortress guards the entrance to Savona harbour, while Albenga has medieval spires and cobbled streets.

Low hills are the backdrop to Imperia’s beach and neighbouring Diano Marina is lapped by turquoise waters. When thinking of Liguria hotels, luxury springs to mind and nowhere is this truer than in exclusive Sanremo, home to an annual music festival and glamorous casino.

It is an interesting town that has been a melting pot of World's peoples for almost 1000 years. There are many things to do and see. Whilst the old town is decidedly sketchy at night, during the day it is amazing. The architecture and sights are fabulous. The aquarium is brilliant (just walk past the dolphins lest you decide to self medicate afterwards). The replica Galleon is cool and you can take a walk through an actual submarine.

Beautiful traditional Italian seaside town with plenty of interesting things to visit. La Pigna (the old town) is an interesting climb through small alleyways and gates. The Russian Orthodox church is small but perfectly formed. Villa Nobel is an interesting science museum & a beautiful villa to see from the outside. There is a 30km cycle and walking track running along the seafront, an old converted train track with plenty of cycle hire places along the way. Plenty of nice places nearby if you have a hire car. Steer clear of the Casino - it's tacky and full of slot machines.

La Spezia is often overlooked in favor of its famous...

La Spezia is often overlooked in favor of its famous neighbors, but it truly shines as the most convenient gateway to the Cinque Terre. The city offers a perfect blend of practicality and comfort, making it an excellent base for travelers. Accessibility & Parking: One of La Spezia’s strongest advantages is its ease of access. Unlike the villages of Cinque Terre, which can be challenging to reach by car, La Spezia provides straightforward parking options. The safe underground parking next to the main train station is particularly valuable, giving visitors peace of mind while they explore. From here, trains depart regularly to all five Cinque Terre villages, making day trips effortless. Hotels & Dining: The city hosts a wide range of hotels, many within walking distance of the station and central attractions. For those who enjoy leisurely mornings, La Spezia offers plenty of charming cafés and restaurants perfect for brunch. Whether you’re after a quick espresso or a relaxed meal, the options are varied and close at hand. Shopping & Convenience: La Spezia also excels in everyday convenience. Major supermarket chains such as Carrefour, DM, and COOP are readily available, ensuring travelers can easily stock up on essentials. This makes the city especially practical for families or longer stays, where access to familiar stores adds comfort. Overall Atmosphere: While La Spezia may not have the dramatic cliffside views of the Cinque Terre villages, it compensates with its welcoming atmosphere, modern amenities, and strategic location. It’s a city that balances functionality with charm, offering travelers both convenience and a taste of Italian coastal life. This place is more than just a transit hub—it’s a smart, comfortable, and safe base for exploring Cinque Terre. With easy parking, reliable transport connections, diverse dining, and everyday conveniences, it’s a destination worth considering in its own right.

Savona is a port and has an attractive harbour and old town. The ceramics museum here is one of the best. There are lots of good places to eat, and it is also not far to go along the coast to the Ligurian Riviera, with all that this has to offer. It is very easy to get around Savona on foot.

Lovely town with many shops, restaurants and plenty to do. The beach and the sea looked very inviting even in winter! Easy to walk around and we found it very easy to visit nearby towns using trains which are reasonably priced and comfortable. Not easy to park near the centre, but there are several car parks for a reasonable hourly rate.

it is a historic town with old buildings, au on a heel, like a fortress. Unfortunately the buildings are not renovated and most of them look pretty bad. Otherwise it is a typical italian area (the old town) where you can see the way they live, the. way they interact with eachother. The overall town is beautiful, on the seaside, with nice people.

Imperia is for people who like authentic atmosphere, enjoying the local culture, family restaurants, seafood, gelato, biking - there is a Bolt company for e-bikes and scooters and it is the ONLY place in the region with that option! A huge bicycle road is a big plus and a big Carrefour which is open 24/7. Literally all the time! There is also a free transfer to the city center from the station – it is impossible to find the information about the bus stops and schedule, so just talk to the driver! Just keep in mind there is no restaurant food between roughly 14 and 19, only bars with small cafes.
