Perfectly situated by the beach. Even though the road goes straight in front of, and the train just behind, the soundproofing was excellent, so the room was quiet during the night. The staff was really helpful, and upgraded our room, even though the bookingmistake was mine.

FAQs about hotels in Liguria

A Spectacular Sea of Colour

Although one of Italy’s smallest regions, Liguria punches well above its weight for incredible scenery. Its coastline stretching from the French border to the port of La Spezia is lined with brightly coloured houses, including those spectacularly hugging cliffs in the Cinque Terre villages.

Equally impressive is Portofino harbour, one of the most beautiful in Italy. In a country that counts Venice, Sorrento and Capri amongst its harbour towns, that’s quite some accolade. Next door Rapallo has a long promenade watched over by a castle.

Levanto’s promenade is supported by pillars on the beach below and overlooks mountains descending into the Mediterranean Sea. Portovenere at the tip of a peninsula has a Gothic church on a rocky outcrop.

The Liguria capital is Genoa, Italy’s busiest port and home to one of Europe’s largest Old Towns. Varazze to the west has a sweeping beach, as does Alassio – 2 resorts with lots of Liguria hotels on the beach on Booking.com. A fortress guards the entrance to Savona harbour, while Albenga has medieval spires and cobbled streets.

Low hills are the backdrop to Imperia’s beach and neighbouring Diano Marina is lapped by turquoise waters. When thinking of Liguria hotels, luxury springs to mind and nowhere is this truer than in exclusive Sanremo, home to an annual music festival and glamorous casino.

The apartment is spacious, the bed is very comfortable. We saw the sea, the pool and the mountains from the bed and from the terrace as well. The swimmingpool is super with the view of the sorrounding mountains. You need swimming cap in the pool! The staff is very friendly, helpful. There are sport facilities, soccer field, tennis, volleyball. There are programs and music around the pool all day long, for the kids as well with animator. The city is a good starting point for visiting Cote d'azur, Monaco, Genova.

It seems to be a very real Italian city, whose focus is not around tourism, which is what I wanted. The Rolli, the grand palatial mansions, were interesting to contrast to the small lanes of the city. Some of the narrow lanes appeared intimidating to me, as a solo female traveler, but after I walked down a few, I realized how lively they are and was fine. Getting around on the Metro was easy. There were many streets with no name posted, which was confusing and google maps didn't work well in the crowded lanes. I took the ferry to Portofino, which was relaxing and lovely. I went to Boccadesse, which was also great. The pesto was amazing!

If one is going to La Spezia one must see Cinque Terre. Taking the ferry to each town without getting off and a Viator train tour the next day was the way I saw Cinque Terre, each trip 6 to 8 hours. Additionally, La Spezia itself has much to offer in the way of good food, a great area to walk along the harbor and a wonderful uncrowded atmosphere. Two photos from Cinque Terra; Vernazza and Riomaggore.

We loved Santa Margherita Ligure.

We loved Santa Margherita Ligure. You are able to take nice waterfront walks, all the way to Portofino if you want. The city wasn't too crowded when we were there in October and makes an excellent base to explore other areas like the Cinque Terre, which is only 1 hour away by train. There were many restaurants to choose from and local grocery stores with reasonable prices.

Typical Cinque Terre town, charming but very busy in all of the seasons now. We visited during the shoulder season and couldn't believe the numbers. Ferries come into town every hour or so. Food/ restaurants options are plenty. Quite a few seafood options. Quiet in the evenings. Great spot to start the Cinque Terre walk. It is quite hilly, so be prepared. There is a beautiful walk to town from the train station that follows the shore but they've also built two elevators (need to pay unless you get a 'permit' from your hotel) to get up to town. The first elevator takes you to the main church piazza while the second elevator brings you to the neighborhood above town near the castle. There are a lot of smaller hotels and apartments to stay in to experience the local life.

The host was very welcoming. Federico who I think is the owner was very kind and knowledgeable. They also wn 2 restaurants in vernazza with excellent food. The location is 3 minutes from the train station which makes stops in all the towns of 5Terre. 3 min away from beach. Surrounded with so many restaurants. But the best tht we appreciated is that the room was cleaned every morning and you could contact Frederico any time via whatsup. He would always reply. That helped a lot. Thank you for your kindness and help. 5 stars👏👏👏
