"I really liked it. Very beautiful terrace (these are 2 terraces) and a beautiful view of Genova. Lemon trees and roses grow on the terrace. The apartment is located in the very middle of the old town. I enjoyed every moment. I got up early in the morning so I could sit on the terrace with a mug of coffee and take a picture of the beautiful views of Genoa, Irene had bought food for our breakfast, it was very nice. I definitely recommend staying in this apartment if travelers want to enjoy real Genoese moods."

"Loved every minute and wished I had stayed longer. A lovely town with lots of charm, shops, parks, playgrounds etc. we got the train/bus to nearby towns and explored the area. There were several supermarkets nearby and a local market on Saturday. Restaurants were along the Lungomare and up as far as the pier. The neighbourhood was family oriented and safe. The Lido pizzeria and restaurant was very good value and lovely food."

"Lively place to stay with abundance of cafes, restaurants, bars, and variety of shops. Cinque terra area easily accessed via frequently running trains and ferries. Best done earlier in the day due to heat in summer. Lerici is a beach area not to be missed, via local bus, and worth the walk to the end. Again great restaurants to choose from overlooking the beautiful beach. Upmarket public swimming pools by the waterfront with shade cover and seating, cafe and bar. Showers available also. Highly recommend staying in Ka Spezia as c opposed to the villages due to choices."

"“It was my wife’s idea to go to Rapallo in the middle of the Italian Riviera. Previously we stayed in the next town along – Santa Margherita – which has more accommodation options and a pretty harbour. Rapallo we previously missed because there was so little accommodation choices so we were delighted to chance across “Villa Porto Rapallo”, a 10 minute run and 20 minute walk along the sea front from Rapallo and you get much more for your money. We enjoyed the Villa owners recommendation of Armida 1905 restaurant in Rapallo and could ‘only’ spend E100 on a family meal for 4 with a bottle of wine!"

"Would highly recommend and would like to visit again. Beaches looked great 'tho we did not use them. Lovely promenade to walk along with a good variety of bars and restaurants providing excellent service - 'What Wine', Hotel Helios are just 2. We visited Portofino on 4 occasions (by the ferry) - one of which was by night - amazing. Trains and buses easily accessible for visiting other places but we'll do that another time perhaps - we only ever intended to concentrate on Santa Margherita and Portfino. Delighted with our accommodation at Villa Gelsomina - amazing property with incredible views."

Diano Marina

Sandy Beach, Beach Resort Area, Family Friendly

One of 1,332 reviews:
"Diano Marino is a lovely resort. Access the Riviera dei Fiori: a scenic railway cycle path from here. The views along the coastal path are amazing. Many eating places but our favourite was "Spaghetteria Macaroni". Very popular, so you must book a table in advance. Bar 900 for apperitivo and spritz. The best Hugo spritz yet and lovely signora serving us. The lovely town of Cervo is only a short cycle run from Diano and well worth a visit to its Old Town. If you like to shop, then you will love Diano Marina. If you are arriving to Diano by train it is a distance from the centre but this is not a problem as there is a small bus which runs pretty regularly, probably every 20 minutes, from just outside the station. This is about a ten minute journey."

"Lovely place and easy access to/from Florence, Pisa and Milan. Also great access to other Cinque Terre towns, which are all lovely and worth visiting. Several options of restaurants but hard to have a meal in the middle of the afternoon - very few options. I strongly recommend doing a boat sunset tour and travel between villages by train. The beaches were beautiful, the water temperature was nice but I would not recommend it as beach destination - private beaches mostly and no sand."

Breakfast is in the beautiful restaurant with glass ceiling. Together with the coffee at your choice they provide glass of fresh orange juice - amazing. Coffee was very good :) Food is great. There were bacon and scrambled eggs. Thank you. Nice bathroom. Good hair dryer. Pillows are amazing. Free drinks are available in fridge (water, juice, coke, sprite). Very very helpful staff. Thank you. There are umbrellas available for rainy weather if you forgot yours. Big parking lot very near the hotel. We paid 36 eur for 2 nights.

Excellent location in the old part of city center, very helpful staff, clean and family-friendly hotel. Our room (suite) was on the 3rd floor and surprised us with an extra-large terrace, a magnificent city view, and the morning birdsong. Breakfast with a good selection and the option to enjoy it on the hotel's outdoor terrace right by the main street. The overall atmosphere of the hotel is very cozy and homely.

FAQs about hotels in Liguria

A Spectacular Sea of Colour

Although one of Italy’s smallest regions, Liguria punches well above its weight for incredible scenery. Its coastline stretching from the French border to the port of La Spezia is lined with brightly coloured houses, including those spectacularly hugging cliffs in the Cinque Terre villages.

Equally impressive is Portofino harbour, one of the most beautiful in Italy. In a country that counts Venice, Sorrento and Capri amongst its harbour towns, that’s quite some accolade. Next door Rapallo has a long promenade watched over by a castle.

Levanto’s promenade is supported by pillars on the beach below and overlooks mountains descending into the Mediterranean Sea. Portovenere at the tip of a peninsula has a Gothic church on a rocky outcrop.

The Liguria capital is Genoa, Italy’s busiest port and home to one of Europe’s largest Old Towns. Varazze to the west has a sweeping beach, as does Alassio – 2 resorts with lots of Liguria hotels on the beach on Booking.com. A fortress guards the entrance to Savona harbour, while Albenga has medieval spires and cobbled streets.

Low hills are the backdrop to Imperia’s beach and neighbouring Diano Marina is lapped by turquoise waters. When thinking of Liguria hotels, luxury springs to mind and nowhere is this truer than in exclusive Sanremo, home to an annual music festival and glamorous casino.

We like visiting the historic buildings and churches which abound in Genoa much of which has remained little changed since the 15th/16th century and is now encircled by 19th century property. Many of the places of tourist interest are in the pedestrianised area. We found it worth thinking about the shape of the town (basically a cup shape around the harbour) in planning our visits as by the end of the day some of the cobbled streets/alleyways seemed to get steeper! Opening time information on listings was sometimes inconsistent (it was a national holiday weekend) but the websites of the main attractions were accurate. Information for smaller churches was often wrong but the town is compact and it was fairly easy to get access eventually by trying doors were each time we passed.

We loved Sanremo.

We loved Sanremo. We were situated in the town centre which has great access to the marina, beach, bars, restaurants and shops. It had a lovely easy charm about it. We ate lovely seafood every day and enjoyed fresh focaccia and on the go pizza through the day. All so affordable! The sea was warm and there were places to snorkel and see an array of fish. It felt very safe. Saturday market was great with loads of fan bargains on summer dresses and linen wear. Try the Old Raileay cycle path. We used e-bikes and saw the whole coast. Was so good and easy to navigate gate. I’d definitely recommend Sanremo to couples or families.

Rapallo has a lovely vibe and felt more Italian with fewer foreign tourists. Sunset strolls along the waterfront were special. Focaccia and ice cream were delicious. Free parking near the harbour was a bonus. There were not as many watersport activities available as other resorts but scuba diving was superb. Town was easily accessible from the motorway and had good access to Portofino (go there by bus, as parking is 10 euros per hour!) and by train to Cinque Terre.

Levanto is the perfect home base to explore the Cinque Terre. The town is mostly flat so it is very easy walking around the streets. There are so many excellent dinning options all around town. The beaches are wonderful and the water is so clear. There are free beach areas and pay areas for chairs and umbrella. We spent 4 days here at the end of a 28 day trip through northern Italy. It was so nice to sit and relax on the beach. The very relaxed atmosphere of the whole town was just what we needed. c

Alassio was really beautiful and just the right size. We walked the beach to the next village Laigueglia, but it felt maybe too sleepy and small (although really beautiful too). There seemed to be only domestic tourists, so it wasn’t a big international tourist destination. English wasn’t spoken much, but we managed well enough with few words of italian and Google translate :) The food was also excellent everywhere!

The smaller beach, "Bay of silence" is a delight, the main beach less so! Plenty of great little shops, friendly bars and some amazing Ligurian food to be found both in restaurants and delis on the main street. Earn your focaccia: enjoy stunning views as you hike around the headland but be prepared for some steep climbs on the way up and some serious declines on the way back! Finish with an aperitivo on the beach as the sun sets: perfection!
