LatviaWe reserved our whole stay at the Egles Villa, but on the first night of our stay there was a wedding and we were kindly offered to stay at Ziedu Villa which is located at the other part of the complex, near the lake. Both the Ziedu Villa and Egles Villa exceeded our expectations.
Breakfast was so plentiful, we barely needed any food until dinner :) All the staff that we came in contact with was kind, forthcoming and helpful.
We enjoyed the SPA, the atmosphere around the complex, the free transfer between the parts of the Resort and the cat Silva who you can see in one of the photos.

We really enjoyed our stay at Sventes Rasa. We stayed in the house with terrace and the view at the lake was magnificent at sunset. House comes with chairs and table on the terrace, so we could relax after a busy day and enjoy our dinner outside with a fantastic view. The house itself looks new, clean and there is everything you need for a comfortable stay. The staff was very friendly. Absolutely great experience, would definitely recommend.

This venue is located, literally in the middle of the sticks close to the Belarus border. It has to be said that under these circumstances, it appeared the wises to make use of the restaurant of the hotel – and what a surprise: we had one of the best meals during the whole of our three weeks holiday. What an excellent cook. They should make sure that they can hold onto him.

It's a Russian speaking environment and a splendid place to go to learn Russian. If you reach out there are plenty of friendly people there. It could do with a day tripper public transport travel card. But trips are only €1. Also there's no fully labelled transport map with route numbers on it. Very glad I went there.

Has beautiful sights, monument, the biggest concert hall of the Latgalē, lots of ponds and river.
Enough of shops, bigger ones having only good variety of products, but prices are low for western Europeans.
Would be nice , if shopkeepers would speak English.
We ate in Ausmena Kebabs, food was really internationally high quality and sizes were enough.
Buses from such a big city, could be going to nearby villages more often,sometimes it's just 1-2 or zero times per day they are.
What's missing ? Self -washing service for clothes . Is only one washing company, that usually washes by next day.

You need a nice weather there to catch real vibe of this small town. Take the paper guide in hotel and visit all of the attractions. They are well thought over but again, they are fair and without posh.
Ludza has renovated place around castle ruins and church which has beautiful views from hill to lake. In all the lakes you can swim with no worries about cleanliness and this is not only in Ludza but around all the region as well. People are calm, polite but remember this is not a modern city where everyone runs around to indulge everyone. Take your time and enjoyment will be much nicer.
If you have a car/bike I recommend you to go around the region toward the town Zilupe, Nirza, Raipole (their church), Pasiene, Vecslabada. All this region in terms of landscape is a bit like Italian region Tuscany before it became "Tuscany". Be aware the most of the roads will be gravel roads but you definitely may drive their with any regular type of car/bike.

A beautiful place surrounded by trees and a lake, 5 km from the highway. Quite to enjoy the nature, Spa zone and other activities they provide. In our villa there were very warm. I am a person who is always cold, but we even opened the doors and windows to cool the temperature down as it was very warm. I think for the winter time the temperature would be perfect but as we were now in autumn, it was in the evening a bit too hot. The service was nice and friendly, helpful with everything. Cozy villa rooms with everything you need. Included delicious breakfast in lake restaurant with a view. You can provide here peaceful time with family or your loved ones.

Lūznava is a quiet place with a nice park a manor.
Lūznava is a quiet place with a nice park a manor. There are no restaurants here and only a very small shop. Everything is walking distance, but I recommend to choose Lūznava as a basecamp for exploring eastern Latvia (Latgale), but separately, there isn't very much to do here.

Daugavpils is struggling economically, but has a charming and mostly well-maintained 19th century center, a fascinating multicultural character, and lovely green open spaces, including forests and a lakeshore resort area on Lake Stropu. The Mark Rothko Arts Center is a major modern art museum, and well worth a visit. Not a conventional tourist destination, and short on good hotels and restaurants, but a fascinating slice of Eastern European life and history.

Rezekne is a great place to relax for few days.
Rezekne is a great place to relax for few days. Most of things are within walking distance - you can go from city centre to lake Rezekne and see a lot of things. Check out if there are some concerts happening in GORS and don't miss the outdoor pool - one thing that is not right in the centre, you might need a car for that.

A hidden gem of Latvia that is worth the visit for tourism and business alike.
There are quite many nice restaurants and bars on both side of the river while majority are located on one bank of the river but it's still worth the walk/drive to the other side.
There are many hidden attractions for tourists and local authority web page with multi language support is a great portal to rely on.
Also Daugavpils can serve as a base camp for visiting Aglona and Rezekne and the South-Eastern part of Latvia.

There were some wonderful tourist points: old castle ruins, nice wooden path around the lake. I was surprised by extra large music hall, looking inappropriate for a small town. Quite unpleasant were dirty roads around block of flats.
