The location was unbeatable. Parking was right out front and check in was easy. Arjan, at the front desk, bent over backwards to be accommodating. His recommendation for dinner at the Monte Giove Italian restaurant, just 3 minutes walk away, was spot on. Our room was on the first floor. We were hoping for a room on the ground floor but they were were all taken. The room was good sized for the price. The mattress was perfect and the bathroom was spotlessly clean, as was everything. We even had a view of the historic Windmill across the street. BONUS!!!!! Arjan gave us a menu to choose from for breakfast, to be submitted by 1900h for the next morning. We came down for breakfast at 0830 and breakfast was served a minute or two later by Arjan's son. The presentation was picture perfect and the taste was even better! I cannot recommend Hotel Norg highly enough. Spend a few nights and enjoy this special gem that is Norg, Netherlands.

We had a real surprise when we booked at this lovely property. Straight after our arrival, we headed for the bar for a lovely pre-dinner appetitive. The bar was stunning in a classic, rustic kind of way. We then were guided to our table in the dining room and this is where the real magic started to unfold in front of our eyes, with the absolute highlight of a dish with smoked eel for two persons. I didn’t expect at all this culinary feast. The staff were engaging and very pleasant. In the morning we were able to have a lovely breakfast despite us being up at 6:30am. What a treat this has been. I will make a detour next time i am in The Netherlands to visit this lovely place again….

    On an island of tranquility with an interesting historical background, this hotel, transformed from an old hospital is a delight to stay at. During the transformation the aspect of the hospital was kept, when appropriate, giving a charm to the buildings. My room was large and comfy, accessible through and right next to the restaurant, yet not noisy. The restaurant itself is a gastronomic experience I can only recommend to take. The breakfast is based on high quality products, tasty and fresh. All in all a very pleasant (a bit too short) stay.

    Drenthe is the most 'silent' province of the Netherlands and Assen, being its capital, offers the facilities you may need for a stay. Some parts of the city are particularly attractive: the forest 'Asser Bos' and the part of the city between that forest, the canel Drentse Hoofvaart, and the railway station.

    Emmen is a beautiful city with a lot to see and do.

    Emmen is a beautiful city with a lot to see and do. Wildlands is always worth a visit and seeing the hunebeds. The Atlas theatre always has something going on and worthwhile going to. Thijs and Co is a great place to eat and they often have live music. The Brasserie is another great place to eat with great food. Shops are also open on the last Sunday of the month so you can do extra shopping.

    Meppel is a really nice town in Drenthe.

    Meppel is a really nice town in Drenthe. Come here for a taste of the real Netherlands - well away from the tourists. There are a few museums, boats to look at (as everywhere!), lots of cafes and restaurants (don't miss Sardinia in the town square), but the best thing to do is just wander the streets soaking up the atmosphere.

    Diever is a nice small town with several restaurants, a supermarket, a very good bakery and several other shops. It is close to Drents Friese Wold, a large nature reserve with options for biking (bike rental available in town) and walking. Biking routes are well indicated based on way points.

    Beautiful, everything

    Beautiful, everything The host was there on arrival and showed us around, the host is very easygoing, very attentive, very caring, makes the most amazing breakfasts, and evening meals if you want them. All fresh ingredients, fresh veggies, fresh everything. I had to ask Martijn, not so much, not so much.... The location is a dream, the property a working producing garden, fruits, vegetables, a pond, little wild bits and lots of space for a dog to run in and be happy. Actually, i think one understands I am recommending this place and for sure I will be back one day myself. I wish Martijn all the best!

    We travelled to Assen to attend an important art exhibition at the Drents. We had no other itinerary, other than to see the exhibition, and leave. What a pleasant surprise! Friendly, engaging locals, and a pretty little town that is really easy to get around. We stayed the night, and were happy we did. An unforeseen highlight of our visit to Holland.

    The nature there is amazing!

    The nature there is amazing! So many green spaces 💚 I loved Het Appeltje:) Wildlands is a great park! Also there was an impressive street market on Tuesday. The vibe of the town is very chill and friendly! There are many good restaurants in the city centre :)

    Meppel is a quiet town located in bucolic surrounding. Despite some bulk agribusiness on the outskirts, Meppel retains a pleasant pedestrianised centre. It is located on the long-distance cycle route LF9 and the spectacular village of Giethoorn is 35 mins cycling away. The De Weerribben-Wieden National Park borders the outskirts of the town and Dwingelderveld National Park is less than an hour away on the bike.

    Lovely area very quiet and beautiful If your after a get away from hustle and bustle of life this place ticks the box. It truly is a lovely space. Hire bikes and enjoy the local villages A family who likes to be on the go and busy during the day has to travel far and wide . When I booked we planned on car hire unfortunately our plan changed so public transportation trains although good service it was costly.

    I stayed there overnight, the entrance for the hotel I had trouble finding, but the receptionist came downstairs and helped me find the place. Great friendly staff, and the food was delicious. Definitely recommend to stay.
