I got a great haircut in Arequipa at a salon on Jerusalen street, and found some clothing items on SALE at a department store in the mall in Yanahuara. Great restful stop for a backpacker needing some personal care time. Also, stunning scenery and lovely ambiance.
Arequipa is an attractive city. The monastery of Santa Catalina was well worth a visit, although a little expensive at S40 per person. We had a lovely meal at Zingaro restaurant.
Arequipa was a bustling busy place with many lovely old buildings, including the Catherdral, the Monastery and the Theatre. Lots of shops and restaurants. It's amazing that the town is so close to The Misti volcano which is still active. There are small earthquake tremors most days but apparently this is better than having one big one less frequently.
Interesting little town. The exploration of colca canyon can probably better be done from cabanaconde, but the atmosphere in this town is great, with nice markets, friendly people. Making it a great place to stay for a night if you have a transfer to or from Arequipa, puno or cusco
We would recommend the main square and it's numerous restaurants which are on the upper floors of the shops and overlook the main square. Lovely views of the square whilst dining. Easy and safe to walk around Arequipa although traffic tends to ignore pedestrian crossings! Would also recommend the overnight tour to Colca Canyon to see the magnificent condors. Arranged by your hotel in Arequipa for best value. We did the one night tour .
Would definitely have spent more time if we could have so that we could go Colca Canyon for longer than a day trip and spent more time visiting museums. Arequipa really grew on me after a few day. We did a bus tour of the suburbs which was uninteresting & a bit of a waste - otherwise brilliant. Tip - get up early for the clearest views of Misti & other volcanos 🌋
Arequipa has a beautiful “Old Town” centre. It has a fabulous square with an incredibly large and beautiful church. It is the base to start the most wonderful tours to the Colca Canyon for hiking and condor watching. An absolute must if you’re interested in visiting a beautiful, but less known by tourists city.
Most people visit Arequipa to visit Colca Canyon, which is a break 2-3 day hike through the canyon but stay long enough to explore the town, the city has some great sights, a fantastic market place and is good to go shopping. There are some free options such as the walking tour and the alpaca sanctuary. Lots of great places to eat and some very beautiful architecture. Around 4-5 days is perfect and if you’re around on the weekends there are a few really great bars and clubs but they are a little spread out.
Arequipa, with it's forever perfect weather, a beautiful historical colonial architecture and superb gastronomy is a place of enjoyment and relax. You want to spend more than a couple of days here. Don't forget to explore it's natural surroundings! It's got the most beautiful landscape.
Arequipa is a beautiful charming old city, churches and all historical places are awesome and super close you can walk easily around. The food is incredible and people are super helpful.

Excellent, comfortable hotel with an easy stroll to the Plaza de Armas, Santa Catalina monastery and the historical centre of Arequipa. The hotel has great facilities, especially the roof-top terrace with views over the city, mountains and volcano. You can use the terrace all day, from breakfast through to the evening and you can order drinks to be brought up from the bar. Breakfast is a buffet with lots of variety (including for vegetarians) and excellent quality. Staff are particularly friendly and helpful.

Perfect hotel to stay in Arequipa! Nice clean room with huge and very comfortable bed (the best I’ve had in Peru). Very clean. Bathroom big enough and good water pressure in the shower. Breakfast buffet bigger than usually in Peru, with different types of bread, Marmelade, honey, cereals, various fruit, eggs,... Perfect location - very close to the main square and one street away from the pedestrian zone. I felt comfortable walking to the hotel alone (female, mid-twenties, blonde) by day and at night.

The place is very cute and is right by the main Plaza so great location. We booked our Colca Canyon tour here as well which was really convenient. One thing we didn't realize until trying to check out at 6 am is that this place only accepts cash! I was a bit in shock since Arequipa is a big city and this hostel is so central and we never had this issues anywhere else in Peru. Other than this little hiccup, it was great.

Friendly staff 24/24 and amazing breakfast. There was no buffet but we were personally served. The bed was very large and comfortable and the bathroom had a nice hot shower. We were surprised to see that many rooms were still vacant; the wide offer of hotels in Arequipa will probably have something to do with it. Anyway, this was a good stay, close to the historic centre and for a modest price.

Diana, our host, was extremely nice and helpful. She made our stay very welcoming. She went out of her way to help with everything (within and outside of our booking!). The place is clean and has all you’ll need during your time in Arequipa. They also let us hang out at the hotel while we waited for a bus to our next destination after check out.

Amazing stuff! The hostel itself is good and clean, it's not far from the center. But what amazed me is the stuff. They helped us tremendously and treated not only us but other guests as well like we are staying in 5 star hotel. Thank you so much for your hospitality! Will definitely stay here again if I ever back in Arequipa.

I loved this hotel, it felt like home. I felt very welcome and well looked after. It was a short walk to the centre of Arequipa and was in a quiet side street. The room was very comfortable and well equipped. The staff were particularly kind and friendly and Arequipa is wonderful. I would definitely go again. A lovely place

Geeat value for money spent. Staff was nice and accommodating. Nice breakfast on rooftop terrace. Stayed in a double room with private bathroom. Very clean. Free luggage storage available. In private rooms the place has more of a hotel feel rather than hostel. Would come back if in Arequipa again.

Wonderfully helpful guard of the property! By the way we never felt unsafe around the hotel, but guards are quite common in Peru. He helped us park our car inside the hotel complex. Great breakfast. Wonderfully reclusive "isle" in the midst of busy Arequipa.

Our stay at Posada Nueva Espana was absolutely lovely. Clean rooms, hot showers, and an excellent (an free!) breakfast. The hotel itself is very charming, and is located just a 10 minute walk to the main plaza in Arequipa. The staff were friendly and accommodating.

The owner were very nice and knowledgeable, they know everything about the city and its whereabouts. The hotel is located in the center of Arequipa, very close to Santa Catalina and the airport. The place is clean and has a rooftop where you can eat and hangout.

We had a lovely, large room in this quaint hotel in a quiet street within easy walk of the main square in Arequipa. The staff were excellent, friendly and helpful. One of the better breakfasts in our stay in Peru, served out on the terrace. Highly recommended.

The hostel is at an excellent location, 1 minute from Plaza des Armas and close to all restaurants and attractions in Arequipa. The road is relatively quiet at night since the road itself is not so close to the night clubs etc. Overall very comfortable stay.

Excellent stay! The staff took care of every need, they were attentive to notice and help. The place is amazingly cute and clean. We were the envy of my group in arequipa when I showed the pictures of my hotel!

Very social hostel where it is easy to meet other backpackers. Friendly staff and there were lockers and plugs for every bed (4-bed dorm). I would definitely stay here again if I came back to Arequipa!
