Endless blue sky and so many opportunities to walk around. Many things to see but also great for just hanging around and doing nothing apart from eating the great food. Dive into the history and enjoy a free guided tour!
A beautiful city with the most amazing sunshine - a fantastic getaway from Lima in the winter months. Staying in the Plaza de Armas means that most of the significant sights/attractions/restaurants are within walkig distance (although a taxi to Carmen Alto for views of the mountains is highly recommended). Altitude isn't too bad but certainly noticeable if you're a sea-level dweller. There is also ample opportunity to get out of the city for a horseback tour of the countryside (Cabalgatas Arequipa in Paucarpata put on an excellent service for me). There are also three excellent craft beer taprooms - Chelawasi, Melkim and my favourite Nowhere if you want to sample some exquisite beers.
This is a very beautiful city to just wander around, the main square is gorgeous and lunch at the restaurants on the terrace overlooking it are a must. I spent a morning wandering around Santa Catalina monastery, such a pretty and peaceful place. Go early to avoid the crowds and get it mostly to yourself. There is a good little coffee shop in there that sell delicious cake!
We came to Arequipa as a stopover for the Colca Canyon, but we were plesantly suprised by the Historical centre, which is absolutely fantastic. Lots to see (including a history museum where they keep Juanita, a well preserved Inca girl mummy), a large, typical local Peruvian market with food, fruits and lots of alpaca/lama stuff, some upscale shops with superb (but expensive) baby alpaca clothing and accessories, ATMs and restaurants everywhere. Not to mention the Plaza del Armas, with its imposing, shining cathedral. From the streets you can see the snowy volcanoes peaks on a nice day. Make sure to try the street-available clove&cinnamon icecream, delicious stuff. Outside this area, the city is mostly favela-like, with unfinished houses, poorly maintained streets and heavy traffic - we only went through it on our way to the airport.
Arequipa is a very special city. The people are so friendly.Even when traders try to sell you something and you decline, they wish you a nice day and a pleasant trip. Some travelers may have a problem with Arequipa's altitude, but you normally climatise after a short period
Such a lovely town! Arequipa felt like a breath of fresh air coming from places like La Paz, Puno, and Cusco (which all has their own charm of course). It is a mix of architecture, history (pre and post Incan), crafts, quaintness, majesty - with the three volcanoes surrounding the town in the distance with an amazing culinary scene I would have loved to spend a week enjoying. The food ranges from next level fusion to the wholly authentic. Great place to spend walking around all day admiring the old buildings, and duck into a museum or cathedral or church or monastery. I would definitely visit again when I have more time to take advantage of one of the day hikes or to the colca mountains excursion during the dryer season.
The hotel was in a great location and within the walls was a small oasis filled with flowers, games, an indoor pool and seating areas scattered everywhere. The staff was very attentive and considerate . The buffet breakfast was very good and with good variety. The room was big enough, with a very comfortable bed and had a beautiful view to one of the sitting areas. The hotel was the perfect combination with tradition and modernity. We actually thought that it could be a good place to live once retired.
I was so happy I booked this place after staying in some not so great accommodation along the way to Cusco. I arrived off the Peru hop bus at the crazy time of 5:30 am. The hotel allowed me to check in immediately. They even allowed me to access the breakfast buffet even though I hadn’t paid for that day! The hotel and the room was SPOTLESS! I couldn’t have asked for a better room after the long overnight bus ride.
This hotel was very charming and located close to the main square. We got a suite the first night and the room was large and came with a water kettle, tea bags, a tv, a safe, and a very hot shower. The hotel was more than happy to hold our luggage at the reception area when we traveled to Chivay for an overnight trip. Morning breakfast was tasty and they served up the best coffee I had in Peru.
The hotel is in a really good, quiet, central location. We enjoyed having breakfast on the terrace each morning, with scrambled eggs and fresh juice. The shower was always hot (first time we experienced this in Peru!), the TV in the room had a Netflix registration and the wifi was strong. It was nice to be able to drop laundry off at reception, for a cheap price of 4 soles/kg.
Arequipa
The staff is super super friendly, really going above and beyond - like handling my laundry for me and even dropping me off at the bus station. The rooms are comfortable and clean and warm. The shower pressure is very strong and there is a lot of hot water - best shower I’ve had in Peru! It’s in a safe area and about 15 minutes to Plaza de Armas walking.
Location very nice -walking distance from downtown. Relaxed surroundings with a very attending french peruvian couple, always there for you. I can recommend to stay in Elisa when you want a upper scale hotel in Arequipa, that include the possibilities for Business and Leisure in one compo. Very charming place:)
Arequipa
The staff couldn't have been nicer. Being a hostel, it is basic. They accommodated my 4:30am arrival!!! and for that I am very grateful. I was able to get a few hours sleep before touring Arequipa. I loved how close it is to the Plaza. What a view of the mountain top on the rooftop terrace.
Hotel was only 2 minutes away from Plaza de Armas. The room was clean and had everything as expected and in the pictures described. Staff was very attentive and prepared two big breakfast boxes for me and my partner when we had to go early in the morning to a tour for the Colca Canyon.
Arequipa
Good breakfast. Super helpful in making sure you get the best deals for whatever activities you want to do in Arequipa. walking distance from main square and a good vibe at the hostel. Not party but still social. there are plenty of outdoor hangout areas including a mini gym. loved it.
The staff is super friendly, the restaurant has a fantastic view from the terrace (check my picture), and the food is so well prepared that you can taste the flavors from Arequipa in their true essence. Tip: try the Chupe de Camarones for dinner and Adobo Arequipeño for breakfast.
Amazing stay! The building has its own history and it's very beautiful. The bedrooms and the bathroom were very clean and the common areas as well. Mateo was super helpful and kind. If we go back to Arequipa we will choose for sure the same hotel. Thank you a lot
The hotel is on a good place close to the main square and the staff members were really nice. However, most of them didnt speak english. They stored my luggage for free for 2 days when I went on a tour outside Arequipa.
Excellent service, comfortable rooms. Spotlessly clean. Good secure parking (hard to find in Arequipa hotels). Only 10 mins walk from centre of town, and surrounded by parks. Good breakfast too!
Arequipa
The staff was very friendly and accommodating! They let us checkin early which was kind and gave us lots of tips on Colca Canyon trek. The rooftop terrace was nice!
Arequipa
Staff is very nice! We were able to leave our stuff at the hotel during our trip to colca canyon Very nice breakfast on the rooftop!
Staff is super friendly and amiable. Also, the Hotel as such is charmingly situated in one of Arequipa‘s lovely buildings.
The hotel has a great location, is super clean and comfortable and very well run. The staff from the manager who was very helpful, Karem at the front desk who couldnt be nicer and all the staff serving breakfast and working around the hotel, they were all amazing! This hotel offers great value for its high standard. Highly recommended!
