A beautiful, modern and spacious suite with a large terrace overlooking the Plaza de Armas cost the grand total of $79 U.S.! Staff were delightful and parking was free. Guidebooks and previous comments about this property are out-of-date...the hotel has obviously been engaged in a major upgrade of the guest rooms elevating them to a superior, modern condition. Ayacucho is a beautiful colonial city that will inevitably be featured as an undiscovered gem for tourists.

The first thing my wife and I noticed was that the town was...

The first thing my wife and I noticed was that the town was much quieter than other Peruvian towns we visited. I spent a lot of time undertaking photography, most people were happy to be photographed, there were some good colonial buildings you could photograph but not so much in relation to landscapes. Eating at the markets was the most affordable and offered the largest variety of local food.

Great city to have fun, has it all, culture, food, cathedrals, art, archaeology, music, fun outdoor trips with breath taking scenery. People are very friendly and helpful. A suggestion: don't book your tours in advance online, do it when you get there, you will find many tour kiosks around the main plaza and you can book the night before. A tour that online cots $120 dollars per person, that same tour at the plaza is $20, huge difference. Pocket the difference and tip your tour guides and drivers generously, they don't make enough money. Happy travels in Ayacucho.
