Umeå is a hidden gem in northern Sweden, offering a unique blend of vibrant culture, natural beauty, and warm hospitality. My visit to Umeå left me thoroughly impressed with both the city and its people. The city itself is a harmonious mix of modernity and tradition. Umeå is known for its thriving arts scene, and it certainly lives up to its reputation as a European Capital of Culture. Nature lovers will find Umeå a paradise, with its close proximity to lush forests, serene rivers, and the stunning coastline of the Gulf of Bothnia. The city is designed with nature in mind, with plenty of parks and green spaces to explore. The Ume River, which runs through the city, provides picturesque views and is perfect for a leisurely walk or bike ride. But what truly makes Umeå special are its people. The residents of Umeå are some of the friendliest and most welcoming individuals I’ve had the pleasure of meeting. Despite the city’s northern location, the warmth of its people is palpable. Whether asking for directions, recommendations, or just striking up a casual conversation, the locals are always eager to help with a genuine smile. There’s a strong sense of community in Umeå, and it’s easy to feel at home even if you’re just visiting.Guest review byAlejandraUnited States - 10.0

Kiruna is the northernmost city in Sweden, located above the Arctic Circle in the heart of Swedish Lapland. Known for its stunning natural beauty, Kiruna offers a unique combination of wilderness, culture, and science. In winter, the city transforms into a magical wonderland, featuring snow-covered landscapes, the spectacular Northern Lights, and opportunities for dog sledding, snowmobiling, and visiting the renowned Ice Hotel in nearby Jukkasjärvi. In summer, the Midnight Sun shines for weeks, allowing endless outdoor adventures like hiking in the nearby Abisko National Park. Kiruna is also known for its fascinating historyGuest review byAnonymous - 8.0
Clean and comfortable place.
Clean and comfortable place. Visited "Old town" now for first time and it was nice. Cafeterias were not open, but nice old houses and beautiful church really worth visiting. In Luleå shops are closing very early on Saturday and are closed on Sunday, it would be nice to do shopping longer. On Saturdays difficult to get table reservations to some restaurants, you might wan't to plan your dinner in advance and do booking before trip.Guest review byHenriFinland - 6.0
Skellefteå is a town with an intriguing history.
Skellefteå is a town with an intriguing history. A pretty town on the banks of a large river. The view across the river of the beautiful main church has been obscured by an ugly multi-story parking garage. Who thought up that damaging action? The town is currently in the grips of street optimization. The narrowing of the main East-West street, is questionable and will soon cause traffic congestion. The station is still in place, but no rail traffic goes there apart from goods !! The infrastructure around the railway and station needs to be optimized and take advantage of the existence of a rail link to the rest of Sweden and the outside World.Guest review byNealSweden - 10.0

I have been here eleven times, which must show that I like it very much. I have been here summer and winter as well. I mostly hike to Lapporten and Trollsjoen. On the other hand, I am not a fan of Kungsleden, which for me is a motorway for pedestrians.Guest review byJean-PaulDenmark - 10.0
The lakeside location was idyllic
The lakeside location was idyllic We travelled to the accommodation on a short snowmobile ride through the forest. The northern lights were visible for two nights of our short stay. Jokkmokk is surrounded by beautiful scenery, lakes, rolling hills, forest. You sometimes pass reindeer on the roads. I was there to participate in a long ski race and everyone I met in Jokkmokk was keen to help.Guest review byGerardUnited Kingdom - 10.0

We stayed overnight, on our way back to Finland from Norway. This was a main city on the highway. You can easily find anything you need and road connections are also good. In Sweden, to my surprise, staying in remote locations can be tricky sometimes.Guest review byMuhammad SaadFinland - 6.0

Gallivare is a mining town and in itself not particularly interesting for holiday takers but it provides good transport options to several of the national parks in the region. It is possible to make some nice walks in the immediate vicinity of the town but these alone are not a reason to travel there.Guest review byJohanBelgium - 8.0

It is interesting to learn of its history. Stories about the history of the place were fairly easy to find. Also about the Sami heritage. There is a nice walk on the hill. And there is a very friendly cafe which serves good food.Guest review byvan rijsingen - 6.0
