We loved swimming in the sea.
We loved swimming in the sea. A bit cold (19C) doesn't matter as you can warm up in the the lovely saunas and the warm pool. It's got an awesome Stockholm archipelago feeling and view, and even a family of merganser birds (skrake). We loved the gym and the restaurant was nice. Great breakfast too!Guest review byHultmanSweden - 8.0

Cute little cottage with perfect amount of space for a family of four to stay for a weekend. Well stocked kitchen, great outdoor space for playing. Big drawback was lack of blackout blinds on the windows so putting kids to bed before the sun went down (which is pretty late in summer) was difficult.Guest review byAubrey - 10.0
This was an absolutely beautiful place.
This was an absolutely beautiful place. Great value for money, insanely good food? Idk I wasn't expecting swedish food to be so good, the nightly barbecue was absolutely a highlight. Also kayaking, ice cream, hiking drinks, this place has everything.Guest review byKatieUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Vaxholm is the gateway to the Stockholm archipelago, so visiting other islands via ferry is easy. Vaxholm itself is very interesting and worth at least a couple days. If you plan on island hopping (day trips from Vaxholm), then figure an additional day per island. If you don't have time to day trip, then definitely take a boat tour to just get a feel for this gorgeous archipelago. It's stunning.Guest review byDeniseFrance - 10.0

Sahdhamn is a beautiful island at the edge of the archipelago, so please note it can get a bit windy since there are very few islands protecting it from the sea. There are trails criss-crossing the island, so it’s easy to hike around and since it’s not very big there is no risk for getting lost. During the winter most restaurants and shops are closed, but Sandhamn Seglarhotell is open and they have delicious food. The island is transformed during the summer months with lots of people, party and a much wider range of restaurants to choose from. So, depending on what you are after, choose the season to visit Sandhamn carefully. ;-)Guest review bySandraSweden - 10.0

Varmdo is a district of 10 000 islands with few towns or villages to wander around or give a sense of place and culture. It has beautiful scenery, lakes, inlets, beaches, woods and farms which made it ideal for hiking and it would have been great for cycling as well as none of the inclines were too steep or too long. There are some beautiful nature reserves such as Bjorno and Sandarna which make the amazing bistro Bjorkvik a good place to pop in for food and drink. The boat services are generally good, but it's not easy to locate information about what is running and when - even Google struggled to find where the information was hidden and repeatedly gave best guesses! If you want to explore quaint villages, pop into shops, trip over a cute cafe for a snack or engage with locals, then Varmdo is not the place for you. If you want to explore nature, hardly see a soul, wild swim, trek through forests past ancient burial mounds and occasionally see people fishing or sailing in the lakes, then add the district to your plans.Guest review byMatthewUnited Kingdom - 10.0

Loved Saltsjobaden. Faurly small, Calm, peaceful. We had several different walks around the Peninsula areas. Very scenic. Liked that we found 3 good places to eat and drink, the Grand Hotel, the Var Gard Hiotel and Holmens bar bistro on the harbour Would like to come back and stay a few days longer forvacrelaxjng break.Guest review byTravel 100United Kingdom - 10.0

Vaxholm is great place to base yourself for hopping out to the more remote parts of the archipelago, as many of the ferries from Stockholm stop here before fanning out into the islands. There is a small range of cafes and restaurants, and the Thai Restaurant is particulalry good value and very friendly. The backstreets are well worth an explore, and it is only a short walk south over the bridge to the nature reserve. When the weather is good, it is simply stunning. We loved the Castle, too.Guest review bySimonUnited Kingdom - 10.0
