Each review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (i.e. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.

Nothing they could change but the bathroom in my room was quite small and would be hard for two people to fit in
Staff were warm and welcoming and gave me ideas for restaurants and tourist sites. I arrived early and they let me check into an available room. They called a taxi for me when I needed to return to the train station. Wirsthaus Elefant next door was delicious for lunch and dinner. Breakfast at the hotel was delicious spread of eggs, meats, toast, cereal, espresso machine, juice machine

No tea and coffee facility in the rooms or hotel lobby. We were sent to Soho restaurant adjoining the hotel and were met with rudeness, a 9 euro bill for machine coffee and a comment of use Starbucks when we left!!

Typical Continental Breakfast, bacon and sausage options were empty. Not a big issue though, plenty to eat.
Central location, clean and efficient. Very modern. Helpful staff, small hotel which we liked and perfectly located in the old city. In a side street and very quiet.

We would have loved to have wash cloth size Towels and a coffee maker in the room. All Hotel rooms need coffee makers To Keep the guests happier.
Loved the outdoor restaurant and bed was very comfy. Nice, quite Hotel And Lovely theme Decor with the elephants. Classy decor And ambiance. Right in the Old town. Couldn’t have been more Convenient.

Parking is a challenge, but to be fair, it's a challenge for every hotel in old town Salzburg.
LOCATION and PRICE POINT! There are a few hotels in old town Salzburg. Elefant is on par with the others, but at a cost point that's far cheaper. We love this hotel.

Only one dislike: Shower has no door, so the water splashes all over the bathroom.

The internet didn't work in the room. We had to go into the foyer to get connected. This was not convenient as we needed to work. We told the person at checkout and she was not helpful.
The location was outstanding and the restaurant within the hotel was really amazing. Breakfast was pretty decent. Could get fresh eggs to order. Good coffee and tea, cold cuts and cereals, and fresh yoghurt.

Parking lot was a long ways away, had to drive thru pedestrians on narrow streets that are for shops and shoppers, needed codes to get through barricades.

Our room was comfortable but on the small side. Everything else was perfect.
The location was great! Everything that we wanted to see was within walking distance. We didn't have a car but it was only a short taxi ride from the train station. Breakfast was excellent and so was the staff. The room was comfortable but on the small side.

Room was decent size but very narrow gap between ends of bed and wall made it inconvenient to move from entrance side of room to the window/ sitting area. No door to shower. No view except to the pedestrianised street below, but fair value given location and quality.
Excellent old town location close to sights and bus stop. Shops, restaurants rights on doorstep and very close to Cathedral. Walking distance to castle. Helpful staff. Stored our luggage on our day trip to Hallstatt. Good variety for European buffet breakfast. Newly refurbished bathroom.
