Each review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (i.e. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.

Kitchen with small fridge for all the people at the hostel. Maybe more kitchen supplies

This place has big personality and even bigger vibes. From the artsy interiors to the buzzing bar scene, Bastardo Hostel is where cool goes to sleep (and occasionally party until 2am). Beds? Comfy. Staff? Legends. Location? Smack in the middle of everything. We came as tourists, left feeling like honorary Madrileños — slightly more tired, significantly more hip. Would we stay again? ¡Claro que sí, Bastardo! 😎🍷🛏️

Air con is controlled by front desk and only really gets put on at night - makes an afternoon siesta quite uncomfortably warm

Breakfast could definitely be improved, but it also does the job. Washing machine and drier were broken when we arrived but a laundromat was 200m away so it didn’t matter too much.
Great location (close to shopping strip, restaurants, supermarket, bars, public transport). We stayed in a private double room and couldn’t have been more comfortable if we tried! Everything was clean and so nice!

Too cold at night, no doonas. We didn't realise rooms were centrally controlled and temperature could be altered.
Location, beds, shower and toilet format. Communal facilities were great, and vibes were good.

Noise at night but it wasn't a soundproof room...
Perfect location, good breakfast and most importantly they have daily events. But even when they don't, you can meet other people on terrace to hang out together. Overall 100/10 I'll go there again when I'm in Madrid again!

No complaints really - just sometimes the lift didn't come when we pushed the buttons so had to use the stairs - but think this was kids messing about? Apart from that all was good.
We had a private room with ensuite - rooms were spacious and the walk in shower was great especially after walking about all day in the heat! Buffet breakfast really good value at €10 Overall the hostel is really good. Plenty of activities going on for those that want to socialise too & the bar / restaurant on site are very buzzy atmosphere too. more like a trendy/modern hotel. Geared towards younger crowd but visitors of all ages welcomed ( even my parents in their 70s! )

We booked the superior room and room was basic for what we paid for. Would be good to have a chair in the room. There were only two cost hangers. The aircon blows directly onto the bed so not great for sensitive sleepers. The layout of the space is a little unusual - toilet, sink and shower in separate areas, ie. Sink is in bedroom, shower is a wet room and water does run under the door into the room every time we used the shower. It was noisy at times and was woken up at 4-5am from people in next room talking and yawning loudly - could do either better soundproofing between walls.
Good location. Central and close to metro. Lively and friendly atmosphere. Room was clean, bed was comfortable.

Somewhat poor service in the restaurant. Waiters not attentive at all. One of the managers -I believe- (heavily tattooed) incredibly rude when I questioned what the status of my order was, after having waited nearly 1/2 hour.

The fact that part of the bathroom is inside the room meant that whenever someone would move around the sinks or the shower, it would be difficult to sleep due to the noise.
The location was perfect, the vibe on the ground floor and the facilities were very good.

If there was one thing I'd like a change, it would be to install privacy curtains for each bed. It just makes for a better experience in a shared room, and is a simple solution
Everything was great. The staff were super helpful and the rooms were clean, air conditioned and quiet. Lots of events to participate in as well!
