A touch “shabby chic” in parts, but delightful and friendly nonetheless. A smashing place to stay for a friendly welcome

Someone could have offered me a hand on arrival with my suitcase and bag as had i my dog in tow and several flights of stairs to reach my room. Had my evening meal in the bar as i had my dog and i felt a bit forgotten about - i had to find someone to order pudding.

My kind of hotel in a great location. Dog friendly. Evening meal was great and reasonably priced. Staff very friendly. Room was a bit small with a very low beam and im tall but cosy and very good value for money. Slept very well. Would stay again.

The staff were exceptionally friendly. The evening meal - vegan haggis - was really delicious, and the veggie breakfast lovingly and expertly prepared. Montgomery Castle is a stone's throw away and a stunning (and free!) monument to 800 years of history, with wonderful views of the surrounding landscape.

Summer duvet on the beds, very thin for a cold night, we were glad we had bought some layers with us to keep warm.

We had a wonderful overnight stay, very welcoming and comfortable. Just what we needed after a full day of walking on Offa's Dyke! Dinner and breakfast were both delicious and very good value for money. Fully recommend a stay here.

Lovely hotel in a beautiful location. Over night stay whilst exploring the Offa's Dyke. Excellent evening meal and breakfast the following morning. Room was clean and the bed was comfortable. Staff were friendly, as were the locals in the shops in town. Definitely worth a visit.

Low pressure shower which was hardly invigorating, although apparently higher pressure showers are available by the hotel’s swimming pool (which is currently closed). Space provided to hang clothing up is not deep enough to allow clothing to hang freely.

Friendly and attentive staff, hotel and room have plenty character which made for a very pleasant change from many sterile and bland hotels. Room comfortable and adequately equipped, and had a good night’s sleep in a very comfortable bed. Breakfast was good. Located in the middle of a beautiful and peaceful town, which I wish I had more time to explore.

What a fabulous hotel this is, set in a tiny beautiful village of Montgomary in Wales . Expect fantastic uneven wobbly floors which is very much expected re being built in Tudor times, def added to experience. Bed very comfy. The star of the show is the staff.. Hannah on reception went over and above to help us with poss late arrival re booked dinner, she was a very warm happy reassuring person, def fantastic front of house, she sent us the menu asked to to pre order and would let chef know, she said not to worry and we would be accommodated, such a relief, food was freshly cooked when we got there and the lasagne was rhe best i have tasted . Sarah in the bar and breakfast was so warm and helpful re our requests different to menu, she asked our names and wished us well..there were other bar staff both lovely but did not get here names.. Such a refreshing change to get a lovely hotel and fantastic staff.. We would def recommend this hotel if looking in this area of Wales

I'm tall, if you are watch those beams in some rooms. But that is what you should expect in very old buildings. So, in reality, not a problem.

Lovely hotel, friendly and very helpful staff. Food was good, prices fine. Very dog friendly which for us was great.

The downside of being an old historic building is that there are only stairs and no lifts. There are no ground floor bedrooms.

Breakfast and dinner were both very good. Good sized room which the receptionist upgraded us to for free as Booking.com had sent our booking through as a double when we had booked a twin. I liked seeing the old photos in the reception area that showed how the hotel looked in the past. It is steeped in history.
