Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United KingdomNothing!
We’re return customers, and stay here for our Glyndebourne trips, originally thanks to a recommendation by a friend. Can’t fault it. Convenient, comfortable, good breakfast, stunning Pugin architecture, incredible view. Look forward to coming back!

United KingdomThe lounge was reminiscent of an old people's home in the way it was set out and the sofas/chairs. I would suggest some more quirky chairs/sofas and arranging them in a more imaginative way
The hotel is beautiful and very serene. The food was excellent. The dining room was lovely.

United KingdomIt was a warm night, no aircon but that's to be expected in an old property like this.
Beautiful Victorian pile tastefully refurbished, bright and calming colour palette, the room we had Sussex was luxurious. All felt very comfortable. The food was delicious, and the dinner bed and breakfast deal seemed good value.

United KingdomNothing at all, everything was lovely, and we had a wonderful time.
We chose this property because it looked stunning and had superb reviews. It was a last-minute decision (we booked one day and drove up the next), and even without much background checking, everything exceeded our expectations. The grounds are beautiful, spotlessly clean, and the room was very comfortable. The staff were attentive, and the whole atmosphere was incredibly relaxing. We enjoyed cocktails on the terrace and later in the drawing room, with live piano music creating a nice ambiance. Dinner was lovely, and breakfast was indeed very, very good, as others have said. I can’t add much to the praise already written by others, except to say that our experience confirmed it all. Highly recommended.

United KingdomOur delightful ground floor room did let in road noise
The charming and helpful staff made our stay in this beautiful and clean hotel and grounds a lovely experience. My dietary needs (severe dairy and gluten intolerances) were handled in a " can do " attitude and I enjoyed the dinner and breakfast very much.

United KingdomOur only issue was with the wifi, because the hotel is in a bit of a blackspot for phone signal, we feel the wifi could have been stronger. We barely received one bar the whole time we were there.
Excellent location, situated close to Lewes and Glyndebourne. Lovely hotel with plenty of space and lovely relaxed gardens.

United KingdomWhilst accepting that this is a quality hotel which needs to cover its overheads, some of the drinks prices seemed excessive. We also felt that whilst the food was reasonable, and in a few cases good, it didn’t consistently match the standard of the surroundings in which it was served.
Service was very good at the hotel which is set in beautiful mature grounds. The building itself is interesting and comes with a fascinating history including royal connections. Comfort levels are high and the overall environment is very relaxing. There is lots of parking.

United KingdomWe were allocated a room in the category below that which we had booked. We only realised this after we had settled in. When questioned on this, the receptionist told us there wasn't much difference. When challenged that I had paid more, I was offered two free drinks. I felt that this was something that could have been handled better and certainly with more willingness to apologise and compensate.
The food was excellent and the grounds were beautiful and superbly maintained. The staff were generally very attentive and keen to help.

United KingdomMy room was the "Myers" room. its at the back of the property. As its a period building the windows are traditional single glazed and I could hear traffic noise from the busy road through the trees. It wasn't overbearing but it was audible.
Lovely period house in lovely surroundings. Very stately feeling. Lovely staff and excellent breakfast service. Very comfortable room.

The hotel is in a beautiful setting, exceptionally clean and spacious, the staff are welcoming and friendly. The food is amazing, and perfectly presented. There is the option to use the spa and golf facilities at the hotel next door too but we did not use it on this stay.

United KingdomNo criticisms. Service was friendly and efficient. Room was spacious and immaculately clean. Hotel decor was bright and uplifting It was a perfect place to stay after a long day at Glyndebourne and we would return to this hotel again..
We enjoyed it :orange juice was refreshing and coffee was good and plentiful. All the better for the china cups. I began with a dainty dish of home-made granola with yogurt and fruit compote. It was delicious. I then had the English breakfast which was tasty and well presented. My husband enjoyed avocado on crumpets. We both enjoyed brown toast with creamy butter. Tables were well spaced and we loved the view of the gardens.
