Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

AustraliaA few stairs to go up with luggage, and there really isn't much of a garden in the front of the castle.
This is a charming and interesting hotel. It had comfortable rooms, a nice hot shower and bed. The food in the restaurant was nice and staff were excellent There are other areas to have a drink that are really beautiful in this hotel

SwitzerlandThere was quite a lot of rubbish lying around and lots of cigarettes butts on the floor.. beside the large ashtray , windows were dirty too. could do with a little bit of TLC
The quietness and the location of the castle.. really not far from the city centre but far enough away to feel like you are.

United KingdomIf I was to be picky, it would be the chandeliers in the breakfast room are in need of repair and perhaps the table cloths could be pressed
The history of the castle and the location was excellent. The cleanliness was excellent, the room was very comfortable, the restaurant and evening meal was excellent, the breakfast was plentiful and very good, the grounds were very beautiful and the staff were very welcoming and helpful.

United KingdomThe car park would benefit from a couple of tons of loose gravel just to tidy it up The entrance is looking a little tired, but a little paint on the coat of arms above the door and removing some of the green moss and weeds from the stone facade and gutters is all it needs. The wardrobe was on the small side, especially if you're planning to attend a few different-styled activities and the weather is unpredictable.
Arranged our 2-night stay as a combination birthday present for my wife and an alternative for our honeymoon (which we had to cancel in May due to a parent being hospitalised). We chose the location as part of our trip to Edinburgh for the 75th Military Tattoo (which unfortunately was cancelled on the night we had tickets for due to Storm Floris). The Castle and grounds are at the end of a half-mile-long drive that takes you through woodland and follows the river. The Castle car park is in front of the main entrance so not too far to carry bags etc. Our room (a junior suite) was as impressive as we thought it would be, and very comfortable. The furniture is looking a little tired and worn; again, a little varnish or polish would change that. The food we had for breakfast was very nice, with a good selection to suit most tastes and appetites. The grounds are surrounded by woodland and has a river running through, this makes for an enjoyable and peaceful walk at anytime of day. Overall, it was a stay in a castle, not a budget hotel. We were celebrating (trying to celebrate) a couple of events from this year, and this place will have memories for us for many years. We have rebooked the Tattoo for the following week and booked in the castle again for just 1 night.

United KingdomWhen dining, there was a table of 2 adults and 4 children. The noise & behaviour of the children was disturbing other diners. I know it is a delicate subject to handle but a quiet word with the adults surely would be acceptable as the other diners could fully appreciate their dining experience.
The castle was an amazing place to stay. Lovely grounds around. Choice of food.
