Right, this is an old building, 250 years old to be fair and as such some of the floors are a bit uneven. Not an issue for me but be aware. The ceilings are high and as such there appears to be a lot of stairs. If you don't like stairs, yet again, be aware. The stairs really could do with a good hoover. My room faced the Church, which has bells that work all night long. Just remember that if you're expecting a peaceful night. Hot water seemed to be very slow at coming through so I heated a kettle for a shave.

Breakfast was great and very quick. Fried eggs perfectly done as was everything else. Also a good size. Good bar and beer tasted clean. Bed was comfortable and very clean. Good supply of shampoo and soap and towels were plentiful as well as clean and nicely presented. TV was small but worked well. Tea, coffee, milk and biscuits were well stocked. Lots of storage around. In the hotel was reasonably quiet. Staff were helpful and friendly. Shower worked fairly well and pressure wasn't too bad. Within easy reach of all bars and restaurants in town and railway station is about a 10 minute walk. Some really nice bars in town from quiet boutique intimate establishments through to a Spoons. Easy reach to a great Italian, Mario's is quality. If you want a curry or Chinese restaurant then there are a couple within easy walking distance. There's a Costa not far away and a Bear cafe and a Starbucks near the railway station. A good Marstons, Dapple Grey, nearby and probably about a 5 to 10 minute walk with reasonable prices. If you're driving then the A50 is close by but far enough away not to hear it. Road outside is hardly used at night so no disturbance from traffic unless you are very sensitive.

The bells! There is a church opposite and its bells ring every 15 minutes…. Even through the night.

Breakfast was good. Staff were lovely and helpful. I was very late but unable to find a number as I was driving. The lady rung me to see where I was. When I explained I was late. She waited for me. Which was a huge relief.

The bathroom and television were quite small.

It's within close proximity to Uttoxeter train station, which makes it easy to get to without a car, and allows for convenient access to the Alton Towers shuttle bus. The staff were also very friendly.

Maybe you should offer single occupancy discount . I don’t think I got value for money at my recent stay . If I’m honest . But as that was the going rate for the night I paid it . No breakfast either ! Extra charge !

Upon booking in I filled in a form with personal details on which was given to the member of staff, who was juggling the bar and hotel reception. This form remained on the bar for at least an hour unattended as we went out for food and it was still there when we returned. The room we had while a very generous size was very cold when we got in there, a window had been left open. Also when the radiators were on this didn’t seem to warm the room up much. The bathroom was full of black mould which was disappointing to see. I think for the price of the room these things shouldn’t be present.

The hotel suited our needs on a trip to Alton Towers, it was nice that the hotel had a private car park. Linens all clean and amenities all plentiful.

No clothes rail in room - just a few plastic hooks screwed to the doors - room described as having wardrobe or closet - seemed we had a closet. Decor needs some updating.
