Because of the high volume of people staying at the hostel, the toilets and showers are not always clean because they are in a lot of use. Because it’s a hostel, you cannot expect peace and quiet like you would staying privately. I expected this to happen. There are many signs and rules to alert the visitors to keep it down but it’s not always the case. Some of the beds, my one particularly didn’t have a plug at my bedside so needed to make sure I’m charged before and after bed.

The staff is mostly there during most of the day to answer any questions and to help you check-in. The location is also easy to find and near tram/bus stops. They also allow storage of your items before and after check-in which worked well for me. There are chilling areas and a small snack bar which creates a cool vibe.

The beds are very shaky, you get dizzy on the top bed when someone moves and climbing up the very uncomfortable ladder is a mission. Our plugs didn’t work for 3 days. The beds could use a little table etc. for your phone etc. and in a big dorm also curtains would be nice. Also had some weird people but that’s just hostel life. The showers were bad One thing relevant but not included in the rating: we shared the dorm with a bachelor party. (I wish there would have been a way to not put 2 girls with 16 men, 11 of them being a stag party; luckily we are not sensitive to comments etc., but that’s not the point). They were fun lads but very noisy and many other guests complained. After they ignored the first warning the hostel had then thrown on the street by the police at 4:30 in the morning. So I guess this is a warning for any party groups etc. that this is not a party hostel and rules are enforced strictly.

I think the kitchen should be updated to be larger to fit more people, and the bathrooms (showers in particular) should be cleaned more often. It would also be nice to have charging sockets by the beds and cubbies or even lockers for travellers to store their items.

I enjoyed the free wifi, the comfort of the mattresses, the location, the price, and the staff were very friendly/helpful!

Bathroom could be better equipped. Shower's could be improved and it would be helpful if there was hot water in the taps to get a shave.

The hot water in the showers was very random, a minute you're taking a hot shower, the next you're in a cold shower.

The staff were very friendly and the hostel itself was clean, I always saw people cleaning around. The location is 10/10, you get to Old Town very fast with buses that come frequently each hour.

The room was a bit stuffy. It was winter when I stayed and it just felt a bit damp in the room.

I expected it to be slightly better like the ones I'd stayed before. The room was too small for such amount of beds.

In the sink no warm water and the rooms don’t respect the quiet hours despite the signs everywhere. Kitchen out dated but covers the need and same other guests dont keep it clean

There are approx. 18 beds per room, in a mixed dorm. This was known upon booking, but the rooms are quite tiny and there is little to no privacy. The bunk beds are in stacks of three, and there is no privacy curtain, so anyone can look at you when you are sleeping, and there is no shelf for items like phones or eyeglasses to be placed. There are individual bed lights, but since there is no curtain, the light shines into the room and other bunks, which might not be ideal if someone is trying to sleep. The bathrooms are located in the hallway and are gender neutral, and there is only 2-3 toilet stalls per bathroom, with the same amount of showers. I felt uncomfortable changing clothes in the dorm, as at the time of my booking, I was sharing with mostly men. However, the shower and toilet stalls are quite small, so it was awkward to change in them. There is also only 1-2 sinks in each bathroom, and it is hard to brush your teeth when someone might be needing to wash their hands, etc. The lockers in the dorm are also very tiny. They can only fit small bags, which is not ideal for people traveling with backpacks or larger bags. I don't think I could even fit my Doc Marten boots in a locker, for size reference. The kitchen is also very small, which, for how many people the hostel can accommodate, is quite inefficient. I would have liked to save money by making meals in the kitchen, but it was too busy with everyone else also desiring to cook their meals. Overall, the hostel was fine for someone who might like to be out all day and who does not mind very little privacy.

I liked that the area the hostel was located in was quieter than downtown, and not very busy late at night. The staff was also nice and helpful, showing me the features of the hostel and where my bed was located. There was also plenty of spots to sit down and relax outside of the room. Haymarket train station and tram station is only 2 minutes walking distance, which is convenient for getting around Edinburgh.

No private locker!!! My roommate lost his watch and earplug and even a soap bar! And those strings in my mattress were broken.

Beds were clean, a bit packed with bunk beds good for a one night stand for cheap , toilets and showers are not that clean and not much facilities. Probably would not be my choice for multiple days of stay.
